Arrest Made In Case Of Missing Teen

(Orlando, FL) -- An arrest marks a major development in the case of a missing teenager in Orange County.That's what the sheriff's office said yesterday after Kissimmee Police arrested the man who's dating the mother of missing 13-year-old Madeline Soto. Stephan Sterns is charged with sexual battery and possession of child sexual abuse materials. Deputies say disturbing criminal and sexual images were found on Stern's phone. The 37-year-old is the last confirmed person to have seen Maddie before she went missing on Monday, and he's considered the prime suspect. Sheriff John Mina says Sterns has an opportunity to come clean with detectives and help lead them to information about Maddie's disappearance. 

DHS, FEMA Investigating Complaint About onePULSE Foundation

(Orlando, FL) -- Federal officials are looking into a complaint made about an Orlando nonprofit. The Department of Homeland Security and FEMA are investigating an allegation the onePULSE Foundation misspent federal grant money. In 2022, the organization was awarded almost 250-thousand dollars to develop an anti-hate educational platform. In November 2023, though, onePULSE announced it was shutting down. In December, Victims First member Zachary Blair filed a complaint, alleging onePULSE never followed through on promises it made when it applied for the grant. He tells Channel 9 no one is holding onePULSE accountable. 

Scientist Arrested For Stealing Shark Research Funds

(Bradenton, FL)-- A woman you may have seen on National Geographic is behind bars in Manatee County. Bradenton Police announced yesterday that Christine Bedore was arrested Tuesday. She's a Georgia Southern University biology professor and researcher, and she has been featured on National Geographic's SharkFest. The 44-year-old allegedly stole money from a Bradenton-based nonprofit she was treasurer of.Investigators believe she stole at least 300-thousand dollars for at least five years from the American Elasmobranch Society. Bedore allegedly used the money for personal expenses.  

Film About Parkland Shooting Victim Debuts In Broward County

(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- A new film celebrates the heroism of a Parkland school shooting victim. 'Coach in a Suit' debuted last night in Fort Lauderdale at the Savor Theater. It's about Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School coach Chris Hixon. He was killed while running toward the gunman to stop the shooting that also killed 16 others in 2018. Chris' widow was there and took part in a panel discussion afterward. She says the shooting shredded her family apart.

NASA Ready For Overnight Launch

(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- An upcoming launch could light up the Space Coast. Three NASA astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut are due to blast off in a Crew Dragon spacecraft called Endeavour. The capsule will be on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that's expected to launch at 12:04 a.m. Friday from Kennedy Space Center. Launch conditions are 85 percent Go. The Crew-8 mission calls for them to spend almost six months at the International Space Station conducting experiments.          

Disney World To Increase Ticket Prices Next Year

(Lake Buena Vista, FL) -- People are going to pay more next year if they want to go to the happiest place on earth. Walt Disney World says it has increased its 2025 ticket prices. Single-day passes went up as much as 20 dollars depending on the park and day. The cheapest time of the year to visit the theme parks are in late August and September. The cost of annual passes did not change. Universal Orlando also recently increased its prices, which match Disney's latest adjustment.

Kansas City Chiefs Superfan Pleads Guilty To String Of Bank Robberies

(Kansas City, MO)-- A Kansas City chiefs superfan is pleading guilty to a string of bank robberies. Xaviar Babudar, also known as Chiefsholic, admitted to stealing more than 800-thousand-dollars in eleven robberies across seven states. The 29-year-old then laundered it through casinos, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. Babudar, who became infamous for wearing a gray wolf suit to Chiefs games, faces a maximum of 50 years in prison.

Suspect Gets Gas While Fleeing Police

(Memphis, TN) -- A suspect in Memphis who was under police surveillance is in jail after stopping for gas while trying to flee police. Deandre Rodgers had outstanding warrants when he tried to flee police at a high rate of speed before stopping for gas. Rodgers were surrounded by police at a Kroger gas station and took off on foot before being arrested in a KFC parking lot on February 21st.Rodgers was booked into Shelby County Jail on several charges on Monday.
