Thirteen Charged In Deadly Seminole County Shooting

(Sanford, FL) -- A deadly shooting in Seminole County appears to be a case of mistaken identity. Sheriff Dennis Lemma announced yesterday 13 people were arrested for a drive-by shooting last year near Sanford in the area of CR 46A and Rinehart Road. A 31-year-old Tallahassee woman was killed, and five others were hurt. Lemma says none of the victims were the intended targets. The alleged shooters were coming back from a Jackboy concert at The Barn, and Lemma believes they thought Jackboy was in the van the victims were in. He says the suspects include 11 male gang members and two women. They're facing charges that include murder and attempted murder.

Possible Human Skull Found In Brevard County

Authorities have been searching the area for two days, but have not found any additional evidence.

Orange County Deputies Reassigned For Using Racial Slurs

(Orlando, FL) -- Two Orange County deputies are facing consequences for using racial slurs while on duty. The sheriff's office recently announced the deputies were reassigned out of the Professional Standards Division. The investigation dates back to two years ago when Sergeant Lance Carlson was accused of using the 'N' word multiple times. Another investigation was started after Lieutenant Ryan Olsson allegedly used the word last year. Both claim their use of the word was taken out of context. Besides reassignment, Olsson got a 16-hour suspension, and Carlson got a written reprimand. Sheriff John Mina tells Channel 9, we hold all personnel to the highest ethical standards, and that includes speech that is bigoted in nature.

Over 200 Students Marked Absent Amidst Measles Scare In Broward County School

(Weston, FL) -- Measles cases are affecting school attendance in Broward County. Six cases have been reported at Weston's Manatee Bay Elementary School, and yesterday the district reported over 200 absences at the school. That's about 20 percent of the student body. The district also says over 30 students have not gotten the measles vaccine. The CDC recommends unvaccinated kids stay home from school for 21 days, but Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo [[LAD-uh-po]] says he's deferring to parents and guardians. Overall, health officials have reported eight measles cases in Broward County and nine statewide.

FHSAA Discusses First NIL Proposal

(Gainesville, FL) -- Some Florida student-athletes could soon get the chance to make money off their name, image, and likeness. The state's High School Athletic Association discussed its first NIL proposal during a board of directors meeting yesterday. The plan would allow student-athletes in the Sunshine State to join sponsor agreements, but would be banned from using their school's uniform or logo name. They would also be prohibited from signing NIL deals tied to nicotine products, cannabis or gambling. At least 30 other states have already implemented similar policies. The board is scheduled to meet again in April.
