Florida House To Vote On Child Gun Bill

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Kids who are caught carrying a gun could face tougher penalties in Florida. The full state House is scheduled to vote on the measure on Wednesday. It would increase the crime for minors from a first-degree misdemeanor to a third-degree felony. This would extend the amount of time a child could spend in a detention center for each offense. Similar legislation is making its way through the Senate. The current legislative session is scheduled to wrap up on March 8th.

19 People Arrested In Central Florida Drug Bust

(Casselberry, FL) -- More than a dozen people are facing charges in connection to a Central Florida drug bust over the weekend. Seminole County deputies say they targeted a pop-up marijuana shop near Casselberry on Saturday night. Undercover agents reportedly found five vendors selling large amounts of pot inside a building off Winter Woods Boulevard. Authorities found at least three guns, magic mushrooms, and more than one-hundred-thousand grams of cannabis. 19 suspects were arrested in connection to the operation.

Orlando City Council Extends Ban On New Bars Downtown

(Orlando, FL) -- A ban on new bars in downtown Orlando could be in place a few more months. The city council voted yesterday to extend the ban six more months into September. The ban was first enacted last March after some shootings in the area. Yesterday's vote was the first reading. A second vote is set for next month.     

DeLand Passes Ordinances Aimed At Homelessness

(DeLand, FL) -- A city in Volusia County is taking action to address a rise in homelessness. The DeLand City Council voted yesterday to ban camping on public property. Council members also voted to make it illegal for people to lie down on public sidewalks, alleyways and benches, and it's also illegal to store personal belongings on public property. The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia says the homeless population grew 17 percent between 2022 and '23. CEO Savannah-Jane Griffin tells News 6, there are about 400 homeless people in DeLand. A city official says the measures come out of a place of compassion. He tells Spectrum News 13, we don't want to see people on the streets subjected to harsh conditions, and our hope is to connect them with available resources.

Pasco County Man Arrested For Election Fraud In Kansas

(Topeka, KS) -- A Pasco County man is facing election fraud charges in Kansas. Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach [[KO-bahk]] announced yesterday that Dade City's George Andrews, the Third was arrested over a week ago. The 30-year-old allegedly forged signatures on petitions to make 'No Labels' an officially recognized political party in Kansas. He's charged with election perjury and election forgery. Andrews is also facing petition fraud charges in Florida. The FDLE announced two weeks ago, he was arrested for allegedly submitting over a hundred invalid constitutional amendment petitions in Pasco and Pinellas counties. 

Washington Tops For Potholes

(Seattle, WA) -- Washington is tops when it comes to reporting the nation's worst pothole problems. A new report by USA Today Blueprint says the Evergreen State is first on the list. Washington is followed by Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee and Indiana. Pothole bills cost the state on average about 457-dollars each to repair with overall repairs associated with the problem up 57-percent nationwide.

Alligator Seized From Springfield Home

(Springfield, OR)-- An alligator that's been living at a home in Springfield, Oregon for 13 years is now living at a wildlife facility. Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife agents confiscated the animal. It's illegal to own alligators in Oregon, except for certain circumstances like at a wildlife rehabilitation center, an educational center, or a research facility. It's the fourth alligator Fish and Wildlife troopers have encountered over the last six years.
