Earthquake Felt Along Space Coast

(Titusville, FL) --An earthquake did shake the Space Coast. The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed yesterday a 4-point-oh quake occurred around quarter-of-eleven Wednesday night. It struck about a hundred miles east of Cape Canaveral. The USGS reports it was felt in Melbourne, Palm Bay and Cocoa. No injuries were reported.

DeSantis Talks Low Debt Rate, Public Safety While In Tampa

(Tampa, FL) -- Governor Ron DeSantis says Florida is in good shape. He was at the Florida State Fair in Tampa yesterday, where he highlighted how Florida has the lowest debt per capita in the nation. The governor also touched on the state's dedication to public safety and holding criminals accountable. To try to boost recruitment efforts, there is a five-thousand-dollar sign-on bonus for law enforcement officers in Florida.

Florida Supreme Court Denies Hearing For Convicted Cop Killer

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A man convicted of killing a Central Florida police officer will remain on death row. The state Supreme Court denied a hearing request for Markeith Loyd this week. He was previously sentenced in the death of Orlando Police Lieutenant Debra Clayton in 2017.Clayton was shot after she saw Loyd at a Walmart. At the time, he had a warrant out for his arrest in connection to the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon. Loyd can appeal the high court's decision. 

Road Rage Shooting In Orlando

(Orlando, FL) --A man is injured after an apparent road rage shooting in Orlando. It happened last night on Lake Underhill Road. Police say someone on a motorcycle shot into a car and hit a man in the arm.He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. 

Attempted Kidnapping Foiled In Miami-Dade County

(Miami Beach, FL) -- A Miami-Dade County man is a hero after stopping a kidnapping attempt. Miami Beach Police say a man tried kidnapping a four-year-old child yesterday in Miami Beach at a CVS on Collins Ave. The boy's dad, though, fought off the man before the man ran away. No one was hurt.  Police arrested the suspect without incident. Miami Beach 26-year-old Nicolas Sternaman is facing charges that include kidnapping and aggravated child abuse.

Treasure Island To Change Mobility Plan After Resident Feedback

(Treasure Island, FL) -- Some Pinellas County residents are getting their way in shaping their city's mobility plan. Treasure Island residents spoke at a city council workshop Tuesday. They criticized the city's plan to change 107th Avenue from four lanes to two because it would create more traffic and lengthen commute times. The city council seems to have listened and decided to keep the road at four lanes.Mayor Tyler Payne tells ABC Action News, it's a delicate balance between residents' desires and the needs of the business community.        

HillsCo Deputies Wrangle Loose 'Roo

(Tampa, FL) --A loose kangaroo is back with its owner in Hillsborough County. The sheriff's office said yesterday it got a call from a woman saying there was a kangaroo hopping around her apartment complex in Temple Terrace. Deputies arrived at the complex near Fowler Ave and 56th Street, but the kangaroo had already moved about a mile away to Arbor Pointe Circle. That's where deputies were able to get the kangaroo into a trailer 45 minutes later. The FWC was called in, and they found the owner. Deputies say the owner has all the proper paperwork that one needs to keep a wild animal as a pet, and the owner was allowed to retrieve the kangaroo and bring it home.   

2024 Paris Olympic Medals To Include Iron Straight From Eiffel Tower

(Paris) -- The medals for the Paris 2024 Olympics will include a small piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower. The country is including the hexagonal piece to mark 100 years since Paris last hosted the Olympic Games. The iron chunks come from pieces removed from the iconic power over various renovations in the last century. The organization that oversees the Eiffel Tower donated them to the Paris Olympic Committee.

Bets On Super Bowl Could Top $23B

(Johnson City, TN) -- The amount bet on this years' Super Bowl is projected to be the largest ever. Experts with the Gambling Clinic at East Tennessee State University say that's due in part to more states legalizing gambling. Officials with the clinic say there are ways not to lose big when gambling including thinking about how much money you can afford to spend and setting a limit. It's also good to let a friend know what your limit is as the accountability can keep a person within the boundaries they set. A record of over 23-billion-dollars is expected to be wagered on the title game.
