Two Killed, Two Police Officers Hurt In Brevard County

(Palm Bay, FL)-- Two people are dead and two police officers are injured after a shootout in Brevard County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Palm Bay after police officers responded to a domestic violence call on Forgal Ave, Northeast. The police department says officers exchanged gunfire with 24-year-old Brandon Kapas. Additional officers responded and pursued Kapas. Police say Kapas killed someone else before officers shot him to death. Governor Ron DeSantis Wants To Make Sure Social Media Ban Succeeds In Court

(Kissimmee, FL) -- Governor DeSantis wants to work with the Florida Legislature on the youth Social Media Ban that recently passed the house. The ban would keep anyone under 16 years old from creating and using a social media account. In an appearance at NeoCity Academy in Kissimmee the Governor said he is worried about the legal challenges the bill would face if enacted. The bill passed the house 106 to 13 and is being done out of concern for youth mental health.

Former Orlando Police Chief Criticizes Bill Banning Citizens Review Boards

(Orlando, FL) -- Orlando's former police chief opposes a bill moving forward in Tallahassee. A state senate committee last week approved SB 576.The bill would make it illegal for local governments to form citizen review boards that examine police actions. Orlando has one of these boards. Former OPD Chief Orlando Rolon says residents have the right to dictate how law enforcement should serve the community. He also tells Fox 35 if officers are doing the right thing, they should never have to worry about any Citizen's Review Board.    

HillsCo K9 Finds Missing Girl

(Tampa, FL) -- A K9 is credited with finding a missing girl in Hillsborough County. The sheriff's office shared details yesterday on X about an incident that unfolded Friday night in Wimauma. Deputies looking for an 11-year-old girl talked to neighbors who dropped her off at an apartment complex. After deputies went to the complex, K9 Mary Lu alerted them to a locked bathroom door at a park. The girl was inside, and deputies were able to get her to unlock the door and come out. She was not hurt.

Judge Comments On Governor Choice To Shut Down Pro-Palestine College Chapters, Yet To Decide

(Tallahassee, FL)-- A Florida Judge has commented on Governor DeSantis and the University Chancellor's order to shut down pro-Palestinian chapters at two universities. The Judge said they are "running their mouths" at the end of a nearly four hour meeting. The judge did not make an immediate decision to temporarily block the ban while it is sorted in court. 

Missing Teen Found Five Years After Disappearance

(Miami, FL) -- A girl who went missing five years ago appears to be a victim of human trafficking. Miami-Dade Police this weekend found the 17-year-old who disappeared in 2019. A Miami man who was with her was arrested for human trafficking. He was identified as 27-year-old Christian Carvajal. Police say he drove her to Doral for a date he arranged with a man who turned out to be an undercover officer in the Human Trafficking Squad.      

Florida Featured Prominently In List of Most Challenging Cities For 'Pollen Allergies'

(Undated) -- Seven Florida municipalities show up in the top-20 percentile on the latest list of the most challenging cities in the U.S. when it comes to pollen allergies. Officials say the list - prepared by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America - tracks the severity of allergy suffering in the 100 most-populated metro areas in the U.S. Topping the list - in descending order - are Wichita, Kansas at number one, following by Dallas, Texas and Scranton, Pennsylvania. The following Florida cities reportedly showed up in the top fifth of the list: Sarasota (#6), Cape Coral (#7), Orlando (#8), Miami (#14), Lakeland (#15), Palm Bay (#17) and Tampa (#18).

Clydesdales To Return To Super Bowl Commercials This Year

(St. Louis, MO)-- The Clydesdales are coming back to the Super Bowl. St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch has released a 15-second video clip teasing the return of the trademark Budweiser draft horses. The beer company stopped airing commercials with the horses during the Super Bowl three years ago as it said it wanted to raise awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine along with the Ad Council. That marked the first time in nearly 40 years that the international brewer had skipped the Super Bowl. The teaser video shows the world-famous horses emerging from their stables in a blizzard. The Super Bowl airs February 11th on CBS, Paramount Plus and Nickelodeon.
