Warm Front To Bring Strong Storms Across Central Florida
(Melbourne, FL) -- An approaching warm front is expected to bring a line of potentially severe storms across Central Florida. While some communities are still cleaning up from Tuesday's weather, the National Weather Service says a risk of strong to marginally severe storms will take effect this afternoon from Osceola and Brevard counties northward. The main threats are wind gusts, lightning, and rain. The next cold front is expected to move in on Saturday morning with another chance for storms expected early next week.
State Attorney Bain Hosts De-escalation Forum
(Orlando, FL) -- One of Central Florida's top prosecutors wants to make sure traffic stops don't lead to violence. State Attorney Andrew Bain held a de-escalation forum yesterday. It included a simulated traffic stop to show how a police officer and a driver should react. Bain says both sides need to find better ways to communicate with each other and not cause discord or disagreement.
Tempers Flare At Miami City Commission Meeting
(Miami, FL) -- Two Miami officials are trading insults. At last night's Miami City Commission meeting, things got heated between Joe Carollo and Miguel Angel Gabela. Gabela called Carollo a liar, and Carollo responded by calling Gabela a small little man.At that point, Gabela got out of his chair and walked toward Carollo before someone held him back. Afterward, Carollo called Gabela a thug, and Gabela called Carollo a bully. As for city business, the commission voted to extend City Attorney Victoria Mendez' contract five months, and they also agreed to form a committee to find her replacement. She and her husband are accused of real estate fraud.
Police Brace For Wheels Up, Guns Down Weekend
(Miami, FL) -- Police in Miami-Dade County are bracing for a busy weekend. This is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, and that means it's time for Wheels Up, Guns Down. Traditionally, people spend the weekend illegally riding dirt bikes and ATVs on public streets. Police Director Stephanie Daniels tells Local 10 News violators will be arrested and their bike or ATV will be impounded.
Analysis: 99 Percent Of Americans Have A Mexican Restaurant In Their County
(Washington, DC)-- Ninety-nine percent of Americans have a Mexican restaurant in their county. A new analysis from the Pew Research Center shows that more than one in ten restaurants in the U.S. serve Mexican food, and 85-percent of U.S. counties have at least one Mexican restaurant. The rest of those counties are more sparsely populated and account for just four million Americans. Just over half of those restaurants are in California, Texas, Illinois, New York and Florida.
