Jacksonville Bill Would Prevent Mayor From Using Private Funds

(Jacksonville, FL) -- A Jacksonville bill is trying to place restrictions on Mayor Donna Deegan. City Council President Ron Salem introduced the measure that would prevent the mayor from using private donations or any funding on city projects without the council's approval. The legislation comes after Deegan used nearly 190-thousand dollars in private money to pay for the removal of a Confederate monument from a park last week. The bill is expected to formally go before council members during next week's meeting.

onePulse Foundation Ceases Operations

(Orlando, FL) -- A nonprofit that formed to honor the victims of a deadly mass shooting in Orlando is closed for good. The onePulse Foundation ceased most operations December 31st. A spokesman tells the Orlando Sentinel a couple employees remain to complete the disbandment. The foundation formed to honor the victims of the 2016 shooting at the Pulse nightclub, but it never built the memorial it raised money for.The city of Orlando has since taken over the memorial project.

Orange County Restaurant Sued For Sexual Assault

(Orlando, FL)  -- A woman is accusing an Orange County restaurant of allowing a coworker to sexually assault her. The woman filed the lawsuit yesterday against Chuck E. Cheese on International Drive.She claims a 29-year-old employee sexually assaulted her several times when giving her rides home. She says it started in 2019 when she was just 16, and it lasted until she quit nine months later. The man was arrested but charges were dropped in 2022. The woman claims Chuck E. Cheese was negligent because it was aware of the man's conduct. News 6 reports the woman is seeking more than a million dollars in damages.  

HillsCo Sheriff's Office Announces Arrests In Retail Theft Ring

(Tampa, FL) -- Recent arrests should serve as a warning to thieves in Hillsborough County. That's what Sheriff Chad Chronister said yesterday in announcing the arrests of two retail theft suspects. Christopher Hawkins and Thianna Robinson are accused of stealing over eight thousand dollars worth of merchandise from six Targets and Home Depots. Deputies found what they call a staggering amount of tools, electronics and other stolen items in the suspects' living room.

Horses Found Slaughtered In Miami-Dade County

(Miami, FL) -- Miami-Dade Police are investigating what they call a very grotesque crime. Two horses were stolen and found slaughtered into pieces yesterday morning on Southwest 168th Street. The woman who owns the horses says the horses are her family, and this is like a nightmare. Police tell CBS News Miami they believe the horses were slaughtered for their meat.

Florida Surgeon General Wants COVID Shots Stopped

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida's Surgeon General is targeting COVID-19 vaccines again. Dr. Joseph Ladapo says after not getting the answers he wanted from the FDA Commissioner and CDC Director about nucleic acid contaminants in the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines, he is calling on the halt of their use. He believes DNA integrated into sperm or eggs from COVID mRNA vaccine recipients could be passed into offspring. He recommends the vaccines not be used in humans. Ladapo has been an opponent of the COVID-19 vaccines for years.

Starbucks Customers Can Use Own Cups For Drive-Thru, Mobile Orders

(Seattle, WA) -- Starbucks customers can now use their own clean, personal cups when placing their drive-thru and mobile orders. The coffee chain made the announcement Wednesday, saying it's part of the company's initiative to reduce waste by 50-percent by 2030. Customers wanting to use their own personal cup can either tell the barista when placing their order in the drive-thru or by selecting the option in the app for a mobile order. Those who choose to use their own cup will get a ten-cent discount and 25 Starbucks Rewards Bonus Stars. Starbucks said all standard size options and beverage formats are eligible for orders in a personal cup.
