DeSantis Pledges $1M For Potential FSU Football Lawsuit

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Governor Ron DeSantis is pledging to support Florida State University after it was excluded from the Bowl Championship Series. The governor held a news conference yesterday saying his 2024-25 state budget proposal will include one-million dollars for any legal expenses that may come as a result of the decision made by the College Football Playoff.DeSantis says the undefeated Seminoles earned a spot in the playoff after winning a major conference title this past Saturday. No legal action has been taken against the decision at this time, but the draft budget would provide help for FSU. State lawmakers will consider the proposal during the upcoming legislative session, which will begin next month.

Volusia County Murder Suspect Indicted

(DeLand, FL) -- A Volusia County man is facing murder charges. State prosecutors announced yesterday that Charles Ivy was indicted for killing a woman and her son last month in Daytona Beach. Ivy allegedly stabbed Den'Jah Moore over a hundred times before setting her home on fire. Moore's 10-month-old son died in the fire, and her two other children suffered critical injuries. Ivy is charged with two counts of Capital First-Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Arson Dwelling.

Volusia County Deputies Nab Burglar And Murder Suspect

(DeLand, FL) -- The search for a burglary suspect could help close a murder investigation in Georgia. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office announced yesterday that Xavier Jones, Jr. was arrested Monday in Orange County. The 21-year-old was wanted for breaking into nail salons in Deltona and Edgewater last month. He was found at his home near Orlando where deputies also found a Miami-Dade County man wanted for murder in Georgia. Opa-locka's Taverance Jackson, Jr. is accused of shooting two people to death last month. He was also taken into custody.

FDLE Launches New Tool To Combat Rising Crime

(Tallahassee, FL) -- The FDLE is using a new tool to combat rising crime across the state. The agency is using its first ever mobile ballistics platform. It will allow the department to test weapons at a crime scene and enter the information into a database known as BrassTax imager. Ballistics results could take up to one-hundred days to get back, but the new technology could cut down turnaround time to 12 hours. As of right now, the only mobile unit is in Tampa Bay. The FDLE is hoping to expand its services over the next few months.

Injured HillsCo Deputy Released From Hospital

(Tampa, FL) -- A Hillsborough County deputy is marking a milestone in his recovery from an on-duty incident. Corporal Carlos Brito was hurt last month when a man rammed his car into Brito and Deputy Manuel Santos. Brito was released from the hospital yesterday and transferred to a rehab facility. Santos was released from the hospital last month. The sheriff's office says it's grateful to see Brito on his way down the road to recovery. Brito is also called a fantastic example of resilience and determination to move forward in this long and arduous process. The man accused of hitting Brito and Santos is charged with attempted murder.      

Two Arrested After Plane Makes Emergency Landing At JIA

(Jacksonville, FL)-- Two people are facing charges after a flight out of Orlando had to make an emergency landing in Jacksonville. The decision to land at Jacksonville International Airport last night was made after there was a disturbance on a flight from OIA to Providence, Rhode Island. Passengers on the Breeze Airways flight say a man and a woman were arguing and one of them used the word 'bomb.' The FBI was there when the plane landed and both were placed in handcuffs and escorted off the plane. Passengers say the flight was canceled and rescheduled for this afternoon.  

Iowa Trooper Says Driver Admitted To Going 136 Miles An Hour On Interstate In Council Bluffs

(Council Bluffs, IA)-- A driver who was pulled over on I-80/29 in Council Bluffs, Iowa was clocked going 115. But, the Trooper who pulled him over says the driver admitted he topped out at 136 miles an hour. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the driver told the trooper he was speeding because he was running late for work, then decided to see just how fast his car would go.
