No Injuries Following Thanksgiving Night Malfunction At Universal Studios Florida

(Orlando, FL) -- No injuries are reported after riders on a Universal Studios Florida roller coaster got more than they bargained for last week in Orlando. Local fire officials say crews were called to the theme park Thursday night after the "Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket" roller coaster came to a sudden and unexpected stop, leaving riders stuck in a vertical position, suspended 167 feet in the air. One person on the ground said the riders remained aloft for about an hour. Cause of the malfunction is under investigation.

Pro-Palestinian Supporters March, Stage Rally Outside Tampa Premium Outlets

(Wesley Chapel, FL)-- Protesters gathered outside the Tampa Premium Outlets Friday night to call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The pro-Palestinian crowd marched and staged a rally they called "Shut It Down for Palestine." The march and rally on Black Friday came hours after Hamas released 24 hostages it had been holding for more than a month as Israel released 39 prisoners, women and teenage boys.  

Man Hurt In Jacksonville Explosion

(Jacksonville, FL)-- A man is hurt after an apparent explosion in Jacksonville. It happened Saturday night in Lake Forest Hills on Rugby Road. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says he was found outside a home with debris in his yard.Investigators say it looked like a blast scene. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. The JSO says neighbors reported hearing an explosion, but investigators haven't confirmed that. 

Tampa Police Release Data From Ybor City Patrols

(Tampa, FL) -- Increased patrols around Ybor City are making what Tampa Police call a clear and positive impact. The TPD and other law enforcement agencies had about a hundred officers in cars, on foot, bike and horseback through the holiday weekend. The TPD reports five DUI arrests, almost 200 traffic stops, four recovered guns and nine arrests. Police Chief Lee Bercaw says our work is not done in Ybor City, and we'll continue this momentum to ensure the neighborhood and the entire city remain safe.

1997, a 34-year-old woman was critically injured during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The accident happened when high winds pushed the "Cat in the Hat" balloon into a lamppost, causing part of the lamppost to fall onto the woman's head.She was in coma for nearly a month.

1983, stores across the country reported being swamped by sometimes-violent shoppers trying to buy the popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls.

1934, noted gangster "Babyface" Nelson was shot and killed by FBI agents. He was 25-years-old.

1901, the War Department authorized the creation of the Army War College in Leavenworth, Kansas. The facility was established to train commissioned officers.
