Florida Agrees To Expand Business Ties With U.K.
(Jacksonville, FL)-- Florida is expanding its business relationship with the United Kingdom. Governor Ron DeSantis was in Jacksonville yesterday to sign a memorandum with U.K. leaders. The new trade agreement is aimed at strengthening business ties in several industries, like space, artificial intelligence and medical technology. It would also encourage Florida and U.K. universities to share research. DeSantis says the U.K. is the state's top international investor with British companies creating more than 70-thousand jobs.
Disney Generates $40B In Florida Economic Impact
(Orlando, FL) -- Walt Disney World is staying strong as Florida's largest employer. A new study published by Oxford Economics shows the company continues to support more than two-hundred-sixty thousands jobs. Researchers found that without Disney's workforce the state's unemployment rate would drop by two-point-four-percent. The company also generated more than 40-billion dollars in economic impact for the state last fiscal year. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings says he believes Disney's contributions have resulted in the progress and prosperity of Florida.
Tampa Killer Met Victim On Dating App
(Tampa, FL) -- Some details are out on a deadly attack in Tampa. Court documents released yesterday show what led to the death last week of Robert O'Connor at his home on East Okara Road. O'Connor apparently met Lazaro Basilio Martinez Rojas on the Grindr dating app. Police say after the two had sex, O'Connor asked Rojas to leave, but Rojas refused and strangled O'Connor to death. O'Connor's body was found four days later, and Rojas was found hiding under a couch. The 26-year-old is charged with first-degree murder, and Fox 13 News reports he's due in court on Friday.
Hialeah City Council Votes To Name Street After Trump
(Hialeah, FL) -- A city in Miami-Dade County is giving Donald Trump a historic honor. The Hialeah City Council voted unanimously yesterday to name a street after the former president. Palm Avenue will be known as President Donald J. Trump Avenue. It will be the first street in the city named after a president.
Woman Has To Pay Restitution To American Airlines
(Honolulu, HI)-- A Hawaii woman has to pay nearly 39-thousand-dollars in restitution for interfering with an American Airlines flight last year. Prosecutors say Cayla Farris threatened and swore at the crew and passengers on a flight from Phoenix to Honolulu. The captain had to turn the plane back around to Phoenix because the flight crew were unable to continue their duties and several flights had to be rerouted as a result of the incident. Farris was sentenced to time served of more than three months and isn't allowed to fly commercially without approval while under supervised release for three years.
Man Arrested In Death Of Minnesota Hockey Player
(South Yorkshire)-- A man has been arrested in the death of a hockey player from Minnesota who was fatally injured during a game in England last month. Adam Johnson died last month after another player's skate cut his neck in what was called a "freak accident." South Yorkshire Police announced on Tuesday a man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection to Johnson's death.Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in the UK Elite League at the time of the incident. He previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL for parts of two seasons.
