BML Monday: From a Busy News Weekend

…to our Monday conversation

As you’ll se below, it was a busy news weekend. From presidential politics, international and internal relations to a family outing upended by a restaurateur who apparently doesn’t like kids, we have a wide spectrum of stories to consider for our week-opening discussion.

There’s also the Pulse memorial meltdown in Orlando, the UAW strike causing automakers to bow down and lobbyist issues in Tallahassee and, just maybe, in Indialantic.

And we haven’t even mentioned the reporters at Gannett concerned they are being edged out by Artificial Intelligence, NYC handing out free airfare to illegals they want out of the sanctuary city or Bill Maher coming unhinged over Mike Johnson being elected Speaker of the House.

We’ll get to what we can and welcome your thoughts as we get our talk under way on this Monday on BML.

BML Tuesday: Movies, Media & Machines

DAVE DOES HISTORY

It’s the season for scary movies. We do have good news on that front.Disney is holding off its frightening remake of Snow White for another year. Speculation is that they are replacing the multi-cultural sidekicks of various sizes with CGI dwarves. Is Disney waking to woke?

While the dwarves may be CGI, what else might not be as it seems? How about your news reporters? I would swear I have heard AI generated newscasts reported by machine generat4ed voices. At Gannett it could be the writing is being done the same way.

The Mike Johnson speakership is under fire for the Speaker’s religious beliefs. Joining in, or maybe leading that choir, is avowed atheist Bill Maher. While Maher may be seeing the evil of many of his fellow leftists, he’s not completely reformed himself as his unhinged rant about Johnson shows.

The UAW has defeated all of the automakers and it appears the strike is ending with major concessions for the union. That’s good news for the auto industry, but can it help but defeat itself with the big push for EVs?Consumers don’t want them, the government is pushing them and the next Edsel just may be here.

Nevada was the next state to join the Union after my native land of WV. Today in DAVE DOES HISTORY, Dave Bowman will dive into the whys and wherefores of the 36th state.

BML: Wide Open Wednesday

…or, the topic shuffle

It can be anything you’d like to talk on this Wide Open Wednesday. All it takes is your call or TalkBack comment to get our conversation turned where you prefer.

The Mike Johnson speakership is under way. It’s freaking some folks out, angering others and giving us a look at the politics of the House. Also in DC, top Democrats want James Carville to be quiet. It’s not that he’s wrong; they just don’t want his observations publicized.

Coming back to our neighborhood, Florida Today seems to prefer kids’ bodies in hallways to arming staff to protect them, D-33 may not be the political force he believes himself to be, the sheriff has been cleared in an elections ethics complaint from 2022 and the governor is getting some scrutiny over recent decisions and appearances.

So, what’s got your attention?

BML Friday: What Are We Doing?

… Representative Tyler Sirois

A pair of stories begin our day as the House has passed aid for Israel that would take funding from the Inflation Reduction Act intended for the IRS. The Democrats don’t like the idea and the president says he’ll veto it if it did pass. At the same time, he’s announced a “national strategy’ to combat Islamophobia. No wonder American policy confuses the world.

We’ll move closer to home with an Orlando Sentinel story about things to love and hate about our region. We’ll focus on the latter. Senator Rick Scott has joined D-33 in coming out against Governor DeSantis in favor of President Trump. Sheriff Ivey has been cleared in ethics complaints over the 2022 election. The reason is not what you may think. There’s an update that’s not an update when it comes to the Bryan Lober misuse of county funds investigation.

In our final hour Representative Tyler Sirois will join us with a look at the Brevard delegation meeting and look ahead at the legislature’s special session.
