Seminole County Trial Begins For Woman Accused Of Killing Husband
(Casselberry, FL) -- Jury selection is underway in the trial of a woman accused of murdering her husband in Seminole County more than two years ago. Prosecutors say Sherry Fitzpartrick shot and killed her partner, Timothy, at their Casselberry home in July 2021. Fitzpatrick claims she shot her husband out of fear of his alleged abuse.A motion was filed by her attorneys earlier this year to dismiss the case due to Florida's Stand Your Ground Law.Witnesses are expected to start taking the stand later this week.
Brevard County School Board To Discuss New Discipline Policies
(Titusville, FL)-- New discipline policies will be up for discussion at today's school board meeting in Brevard County. The district implemented a stricter policy this school year, and discipline referrals were up 150 percent in the first quarter. School Board Chairman Matt Susin is happy with the results. He tells Fox 35 News teachers have more control of their classrooms, and principals have more control of their schools.
Lauderhill Commission Votes To Challenge State Gun Law
(Lauderhill, FL)-- Some Broward County lawmakers are challenging a state gun law. The Lauderhill City Commission yesterday unanimously passed a resolution to reverse a state law that allows permitless carry of guns. Commissioner Melissa Dunn says permitless carry can make things worse in a state that's already fourth in the highest number of mass shootings. She tells CBS News Miami the resolution will be sent to other cities to see if they want to join the effort, and then it'll go to the governor and the legislature.
Man Arrested After Scuffle With Airline Gate Attendant
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- A man is facing charges after an incident at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. William Patterson was arrested Friday for assault. He allegedly was upset after he arrived late at a Spirit Airlines gate and was not allowed onboard. That apparently led Patterson to get physical with the gate agent. 7News says no injuries were reported.
DeSantis Tied For Second In New Iowa Caucus Poll
(Des Moines, IA)-- Ron DeSantis may be losing his grip as the top challenger to Donald Trump in the Republican primary. A poll released yesterday shows Trump leading the Iowa Caucus with 43 percent of the vote. The Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley tied for second at 16 percent. DeSantis is down three percent from the last poll two months ago while Haley is up ten points since then. On the bright side for DeSantis, he has the highest net favorability rating of all the candidates at plus-43 percent. Trump is plus-34, and Haley is plus-30. The caucus is set for January 15th.
