Each day Bill records a MICKnugget, a one-minute take on some issue that got his attention that morning. Below are the scripts for last week’s NUGGETS.
CLICK HERE if you’d like to hear them. Here are the scripts:
10.16.23- Kick ‘Em Out
Florida has seen protests at our colleges by foreign students in support of Hamas in the war against Israel.
It’s time to send those students home.
These students want the advantage of an American education while inciting riots and showing support for enemies of our country and its allies. It’s time for that to stop.
A student, or employment visa for that matter, is a privilege, not a right. Yank the visas and send the protesters back to their own countries.
Supporting your own people is one thing. Supporting war against the innocent and advocating for terrorism is another.
These people are here by permission, not by right.
Inciting riots at our colleges or anywhere else is unacceptable.
Invalidate the visas and send them home.
We aren’t mandated to allow them to be here.
It’s time to kick them out.
10.17.23- Rocking Baseball’s World
The world is changing. Cultural norms are shifting, even if reality isn’t.
I’m not sure baseball is ready for what’s coming.
The San Francisco giants have interviewed a woman for the Field Manager’s job. She would be the first.
Alyssa Nakken has been on the Giant’s coaching staff since 2020. She’s 33 years old, has a masters in sports management and was an accomplished college softball player.
Yet, the odds won’t be in her favor. Breaking baseball’s glass ceiling will be tough.
Having respect in the locker room may be eased by her being a coach already, but her age will be as much a factor as her gender.
Thirty-three is young for a Big League Manager. Men are still playing at that age and managers tend to have more than a couple years coaching experience.
We’ve accepted female officials in other professional sports, but officials don’t manage players or locker rooms.
It’s coming someday, I’m just not sure that today is the day.
10.18.23- Progress, but No Speaker, Yet
Jim Jordan did not become Speaker of the House on the first ballot.
That’s not a surprise. With a divided Republican party, a first ballot win would have been shocking.
That said, it was significant progress from where they were when Jordan was named the nominee. There were eighty-some votes against Jordan in the nomination process.
To narrow that to 20 on the first ballot is significant.
Now, the negotiations go on, concessions will or won’t be made and the balloting will continue.
I’d wager that Jordan makes it in the next few attempts. Republicans are unlikely to find another nominee to unite them and Jordan is very close.
In politics you take the wins you can. The win for detractors was in the removal of Kevin McCarthy. Take it and move on.
Jim Jordan is their best chance at doing just that.
10.19.23- When Lies Fall Apart
We’re smarter than this.
We are told that men can be women. That’s a lie. It falls apart under even cursory examination.
Victoria’s Secret learned this when they stopped their successful marketing plan for one that was more inclusive.
Quite simply, lingerie isn’t for dudes. Victoria’s Secret gets that now and their Angels are coming back.
The American Federation of Teachers wants to tell us they did not try to keep schools closed after the pandemic. This, too, is a lie, falling apart when looking at the facts.
We are smarter than this and all it takes is the willingness to seek the facts which are often right in front of us.
A little research and a touch of common sense puts the facts to the lies. The lies crumble in the light of day.
It doesn’t take a lot to break out the smarts and turn on the light.
10.20.23- Powell Plea Potentials
It could be the event that rocks the 2024 Presidential Primary.
Sydney Powell has plead guilty to six misdemeanor charges of interfering with the performance of election duties in Georgia.
Understand what happened here:
An attorney who knows the law entered guilty pleas to crimes related to the 2020 election.
A requirement of the agreement is that she testify honestly about the crimes and the actions of co-defendants, else, the agreement is void and she goes to trial for the original charges.
Sydney Powell knows what she is doing and what is required.
The implications for President Trump could be catastrophic, at least to his campaign.
It all remains to be seen, but if I am Ron DeSantis, there is no way I consider getting out of the race until this plays out.
