Here’s a recap of the week…
BML Monday: Guns, Government & Restrictions
…censoring podcasts?
I mentioned last week that folks making plans to attend the Army/Navy game were having hotel issues. I couldn’t find the story after the initial look. We have it today and it’s IN A HANDBASKET.
Smith & Wesson has moved out of Massachusetts for more friendly environs in the South, Tennessee to be specific.
Podcasting has many forms. What it doesn’t have, at least here, is regulation. In Canada it’s a different world. Could the censorship of communication be on its way?Should it?
And what about censoring political views? Hillary says deplorables need to be deprogrammed.
In the US House the quest to find the next Speaker is under way. Also in consideration are the rules that run business in the House, the motion to vacate and where the Speaker candidates stand on various issues. The question is whether Republicans can unite behind a Speaker and continue to control the agenda of the people’s house.
BML Tuesday: Lawyers & Leadership
COVID has made its way back into the news. With new warnings and new vaccines, are you up for another round?
Lawyers and those who want to be them are featured on today’s show. Our first look is IN A HANDBASKET where the UNLV law school does not want its students using “the P word” during lunch and it’s not pastrami. In actual lawyer news, an announced candidate for State Attorney in our circuit has decided to bail out of the race. Where will that leave us?
Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy has decided to mount an independent run for the office. While that can get him past President Biden and into the General Election, does it enhance his chances of being elected or make him a spoiler for the major party nominees? Who does it help or hurt?
The race for Speaker of the House is under way. We’ll take a look at what Republicans are doing to try and maintain some kind of control of the process and their majority.
Dave Bowman is with us in our third hour as DAVE DOES HISTORY looks at the Vice Presidency, specifically that of Spiro T. Agnew. His unceremonious exit from the job put a focus on the job that’s compared to a “warm pitcher of spit.”
BML: Wide Open Wednesday
…what’s on YOUR mind?
It’s Wide Open Wednesday. It’s your day to direct our conversation. It can be anything you like when you call us at 321.768.1240.
For my part: we’ll take a look at tipping in today’s society, “Jeopardy!” fans aren’t too happy with the current format of the show- they can thank the writer’s strike for that one, the video is out of the Oviedo police officer who handcuffed the out of control kid (and the cop did good), Steve Garvey (at 74) hops to bring youth to Diane Feinstein’s Senate seat, Philadelphia is getting what its voters ask for when it comes to crime, Middle East illegals are being caught crossing the US border and changes are coming to Wickham Park.
Let’s see where a day where anything goes takes us.
BML Thursday: The Indecisive County Commission
…or was it all a ploy?
The Republicans have a nominee for Speaker of the House. California has way decrease the average age of the US Senate.
Restaurant and other locations have a way to extract more money from their customers. Comic books seem to have lost creativity.
The Brevard County Commission leaves us wondering if any decision they make can be trusted. While it’s a good thing the commission backed off on defunding sample ballots, they have dumped far more money than that back into the arts community. Is the commission indecisive or duplicitous? I’m thinking it’s the latter. They are also tweaking rules for use of Wickham Park. The Waffle is instrumental in that one.
These stories are in play for our Thursday.
In Friday’s 8am hour, political scientist Chris Muro joins us with his perspectives on the political scene from Washington, DC to our back yard.
BML Friday: Hockey, Cops & Politics
…Chris Muro at 8am
My Mountaineers took a tough loss on the road at Houston last night. It was a great, exciting game and I’m operating on four hours of sleep. The 41-39 loss on a Houston Hail Mary as time ran out overshadowed two WV scores in the final minutes in a comeback that was improbable and had WV fans cheering to the final seconds. The Cougars Doug Flutied my Mountaineers!
We’ll open our day in the sports world as IN A HANDBASKET takes us to the NHL. Sports reporters just ain’t what they used to be.
The war in Israel is having its impact here in the USA.NYPD and other agencies are stepping up their game as Hamas has called for worldwide protests. College students are doing just that in various places around the country. Governor DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for Florida is talking of mounting rescue operations for Floridians trapped in Israel.
Steve Scalise has dropped out of the race for Speaker of the House as he could not muster the support of enough Republicans to secure the position.
Brevard teachers are looking at a nearly 10% pay hike after the union and district have reached a tentative agreement.
Political scientist Chris Muro joins us in our 8am hour. We’ll look at the state of politics across the country from Washington, DC to our back yard.
