Federal Judge Denies Florida's Appeal Over Drag Show Ruling

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A federal appeals court is not siding with the state over a Florida law targeting draw shows. The court decided to uphold a previous ruling that temporarily blocks the legislation from taking effect. The new measure prevents children from attending adult live performances and allows regulators to suspend or revoke the license of venues who violate the law.Hamburger Mary's in Orlando sued the state earlier this year, accusing the legislation of negatively impacting their restaurant sales. The state asked for a portion of the law to take effect while legal battles continue.

Three Arrested For Fake Check Scheme In Volusia County

(Ormond Beach, FL)-- An alert post office employee is credited with breaking up a fake check scheme in Volusia County. Ormond Beach Police this week arrested three New York residents. They allegedly tried to use a fake Treasury check to buy a money order at the post office. Police say the postmaster was aware of a similar scam elsewhere, and she contacted law enforcement. Investigators tell News 6 they believe these suspects are connected to those cases.  

Pro-Palestine Rally Held At USF

(Tampa, FL)-- Some University of South Florida students are protesting what they call the genocide of the Israeli military. USF's Students for Socialism group held a pro-Palestine rally yesterday.A sophomore Palestinian-American says her people are being murdered, oppressed and unfairly perceived as terrorists.Meanwhile, a pro-Israel rally was held at the University of Tampa. Students there tell the Tampa Bay Times they're calling attention to the atrocities committed by Hamas in Israel.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Activates Emergency Operations Center As War Escalates

(Miami, FL)-- Miami-Dade County is taking action to keep residents safe as the Israel-Hamas war continues. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava partially activated the county's Emergency Operations Center yesterday. She says this was done out of an abundance of caution, and it was not due to any individual threat. Levine Cava also says police will have an increased presence around schools, synagogues, mosques and Jewish community centers. She asks residents to stay vigilant, and if you see something, say something.
