Former Jags Player Charged In Connection To Mother's Death

(Maywood, IL) -- A former Jacksonville Jaguars player is facing murder charges in connection to his mother's death. Sergio Brown is in California police custody after re-entering the country from Mexico yesterday. His mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Simmons-Brown, was found dead in a creek behind her Illinois home last month. Her death was ruled a homicide with Brown eventually named as the prime suspect.Brown will be extradited back to Cook County, Illinois to formally face his charges.

Teen Hurt In Osceola County Shooting

(Celebration, FL)-- A teenager is hurt after a shooting in Osceola County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Celebration in a Publix parking lot in the Water Tower Shoppes on Blake Boulevard. The sheriff's office says a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back and taken to the hospital. He's expected to survive. No one else was hurt, but some cars were hit. Sheriff Marcos Lopez says the shooter and the victim know each other, and they had a prior beef. No arrest has been announced.   

Seminole County Teacher Arrested For Molesting Student

(Winter Springs, FL)-- A Seminole County teacher is accused of molesting a student. The sheriff's office announced yesterday that Sanford's Lucas Cridlebaugh [[CRY-dill-baw]] was arrested and suspended by the school district. The 25-year-old teaches social studies at Winter Springs High School where the 15-year-old girl is one of his students. Deputies say he sent her sexually explicit messages this spring and summer and had inappropriate sexual contact with her several times on campus.Cridlebaugh is charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a minor and lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor.

Seminole County Schools Pull Dozens of Books From Libraries

(Sanford, FL)-- Dozens of books are no longer available in Seminole County schools.The school district yesterday released 40 titles that it pulled off library shelves last month. Thirty-one have been discontinued, nine are still under review and three require parental consent. District officials say they're following guidance from the Florida Department of Education. The DOE released a list of books that were discontinued in other districts, and Seminole officials say they have reviewed 70 percent of the titles on the list.They also tell News 6 they're working diligently to continue this process. 

Jacksonville Declares Public Health Emergency Against Loan Agency

(Jacksonville, FL) -- The city of Jacksonville is declaring a local public health emergency against a Florida loan organization. Council members unanimously voted last night to pass legislation targeting the Florida Pace Funding Agency. Officials say the company is responsible for predatory lending for residents in need of home improvements. The city says the program is attached to a property tax bill, potentially forcing the resident to give up their home. The General Counsel was also approved to file lawsuits to stop the agency from operating in Jacksonville altogether.

Pro-Palestine Rally Held At FAU

(Boca Raton, FL)-- While there have been pro-Israel rallies at several college campuses across Florida,, those who support Palestine are making their voices heard in Palm Beach County. A pro-Palestine rally was held yesterday at Florida Atlantic University. One woman says Palestinians and Hamas are fighting a resistance towards occupation, genocide and ethnic cleansing. FAU Police say one student and two others at the rally were arrested for battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports one of those arrested is a man who allegedly hit a woman who's president of the Muslim Student Association. 

Trump Discusses Attack On Israel

(West Palm Beach, FL)-- Donald Trump accuses President Biden of, in his words, tossing Israel to the blood-thirsty jihadists. The former president spoke yesterday at the Palm Beach Convention Center about the war in Israel. Trump says when he was president we had peace, and he fought for Israel like no president in history. Now, with the man he calls Crooked Joe Biden, we have chaos, bloodshed, war, terror and death. If elected again, Trump says we will stand with Israel 100 percent and we will not let them fail. Trump also criticized Governor Ron DeSantis. He says Florida families are getting clobbered while DeSantis is off on his failing presidential campaign. 

Missouri Man Breaks Guinness Record For Pumpkin Float

(Lebanon, MO)-- Steve Kueny was trying to set the Guinness World record for making the longest journey down a river by paddling in a pumpkin. He set off Monday on the Missouri River in a 1200 pound pumpkin that he grew himself. Eleven hours and 38 miles later, he'd broken the record. Last year, a man from Nebraska paddled 37-and-a-half miles down the same waterway. Kueny told local TV he probably won't try the feat again and that he'd bow down to anyone who breaks his record.
