Here’s a recap of the week…
BML Monday: Politicians- Words, Acts & Trouble
…can Sheriff Ivey keep his job?
Politicians, by their nature, are public speakers. They pretty much have to be or getting elected could be really difficult. But those words, and often their actions, can get them into problems. We have several examples for our Monday discussion. Congressman Matt Gaetz leads off in our news and when we get to the topic. Also entering the arena is Sheriff Wayne Ivey whose political dabbling has us wondering if he’s distracted from his job and meddling where he shouldn’t be meddling. His judgment and whether he’s acting in the best interest of the county are also in question.
Staying with politicians, are Democratic leaders finally seeing the results of their policies and looking to change their ways?It would seem so and their constituents would be better served if they do.
Our day will begin IN A HANDBASKET with the Anti-Bud Light. It was a genius move that worked out very well for the brewer. Then, in a Florida act of legislative reactionary measures, streaking and other event disruption will being stiff penalties.
BML Tuesday: First World Problems
Today we address some first world problems.Things like the NFL taking advantage of a player’s love life, how your toilet paper tears and whether high school kids should be paid for playing sports. Yes, you heard that right, paying kids to play high school sports.
Gas furnaces are the next target of the Biden administration. Gavin Newsom’s appointment to replace Diane Feinstein may not be legal. Matt Gaetz has moved to have Kevin McCarthy ousted as Speaker of the House and RFK, Jr. is killing his chances of making the White House by going independent.
EFSC history professor Nicole James has penned a great column about learning from history that is posted below. And in our final hour Dave Bowman joins us with DAVE DOES HISTORY.
BML: Wide Open Wednesday
…OK, what now?
Kevin McCarthy is no longer Speaker of the House.Yay! The evil has been removed from the chair. So, now what? McCarthy is out. Patrick McHenry has the temporary seat and has evicted Nancy Pelosi from her comfy digs and will preside over the quest to name a new Speaker. What’s the overall result?
Can the Republicans unite and keep the speakership?Do the Democrats actually control the house now? Just what is the final result of the big move by Matt Gaetz? Was it good for the country, or was it good for him?
The judge has entered a partial gag order on President Trump. Wonder how well that will work out?
We’ll begin our day IN A HANDBASKET where women in sport are being protected, but in a place where it makes no sense. On a similar front, one teacher has been backed by the courts in not playing the pronoun game with her students.
And…it’s Wide Open Wednesday and you can bring up any topic you like on today’s show.
BML Thursday: The Border & the Blunder
…Rep. Bill Posey on House Conflict
Congressman Bill Posey will join us today at 8:26 to discuss the on goings in the House of Representatives. We’ll get Bill’s front row perspectives on the ouster of Kevin McCarthy and where House Republicans go from here.
We’ll begin our day with the pronoun Olympics and where one Florida judge stands when it comes to a fired teacher who refused to play the game.
Suddenly the Biden Administration says a border wall is necessary. That’s interesting since they are the ones who stopped it in the first place.
Even the liberal press is thinking Donald Trump is being treated unfairly in his NY persecution.
And, back to the House of Representatives, are the Republicans too divided to pull together the votes for a new speaker? Newt Gingrich says the eight who pushed the vote on Kevin McCarthy are traitors. Glenn Beck and Mark Levin are wondering, like I am, if the Republicans who made this happen have a plan.
BML Friday: Inclusive Invitations
…but are they?
David Caserta’s Haunted Illusions show at the King Center last night was great. Somehow I ended up on stage with him doing a seemingly impossible task with a Rubik’s Cube, actually two. Maybe it was three? It was a fun show and a great start to the Halloween season.
Trans issues are frequently IN A HANDBASKET and today is no different. What if you threw a trans-party and nobody showed up? After all the Lia Thomas hubbub, a trans category was created for the swimming World Cup. Funny, no swimmers wanted to enter as themselves. That raises a few questions for the Frito Bandito and our Politically Incorrect Posse.
And if the corporate world is supposed to be trans-accepting, why isn’t it? There are questions here as well.
It seems the Republican National Committee is wondering about the value of its debates. So are we. We’ll have some suggestions that could be helpful.
With city and special district elections coming up, SOE Tim Bobanic’s office has a reminder for voters. You won’t be getting that mail ballot you may be expecting unless you ask for it again. Thank the legislature for that one.
Let’s see where Friday takes us.
