(Washington, DC) --Matt Gaetz wants new leadership in Congress. The First District Republican announced yesterday he plans to file a motion to remove Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House. This comes after McCarthy reached a deal on Saturday to avoid a government shutdown. Gaetz voted against that bill. Gaetz tells CNN's State of the Union 'we need to move on with new leadership that can be trustworthy.' Gaetz would need a majority vote to remove McCarthy. Meanwhile, McCarthy tells CBS' Face the Nation 'I'll survive.'
Volusia County Teen Arrested After Shooting Friend
(Deltona, FL) --A teenager is facing charges after shooting his friend in Volusia County. The sheriff's office announced yesterday that Orange City's Jeremie Cuevas was arrested for accidentally shooting a 17-year-old Friday night in Deltona.Four teens were in a car at Three Island Nature Park when a gun Cuevas was apparently playing with went off.The victim was taken to the hospital and is in critical but stable condition. The 17-year-old Cuevas is facing charges that include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Man Safely Removed From Rail Road Lighting Structure
(Lakeland, FL) --A man is getting psychiatric help after an incident in Polk County. The sheriff's office says a man in a mental health crisis climbed a railroad lighting structure in Lakeland yesterday morning. He remained there, 30 feet above above South Combee Road, for about ten hours. Fire Rescue safely removed him from the structure using two tower rescue trucks.Deputies say the 28-year-old was taken to the hospital for evaluation. He's also facing charges that include drug possession.
Coast Guard Rescues Two Off Pinellas County
(Clearwater, FL) --Thanks to the Coast Guard, two people are safe after a boating emergency off Pinellas County. The Coast Guard announced that the Sand Key rescue crew responded to a capsized boat about eight miles off Clearwater. Those in the boat were taken back to the station where EMS evaluated them. No injuries were reported.
Florida Minimum Wage Up $1 Today
(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida's minimum wage increased over the weekend. The buck-an-hour bump is part of a measure voters approved in 2020 to raise the minimum wage a dollar-a-year until it reaches 15-dollars an hour in 2026. Florida's minimum wage is 12 dollars an hour for workers who don't receive tips, and eight-97 an hour for tipped workers.Both figures are much higher than the federal minimum wage of seven dollars and 25 cents an hour.
$1M Powerball Ticket Sold In Palm Beach County
(Manalapan, FL) --Someone in Palm Beach County better not have ripped up their Powerball ticket. While no one won the 960-million jackpot in Saturday's drawing, a ticket sold in Manalapan won a million dollars. It was sold at a Publix on South Ocean Boulevard. The winner has not been revealed. Meanwhile, the jackpot for tonight's drawing is over a billion dollars.

(Springfield, MA) --Merriam Webster has added about seven-hundred new words to its dictionary. If you're on your phone, you might want to avoid getting a "smishing" message. "Smishing" is defined as the practice of sending texts to someone in order to trick them. Or, you may have logged onto social media and fell into a "thirst trap," which is a selfie or another photo shared for the purpose of getting attention. If you feel the need to leave a comment, you could say "NGL", which is an abbreviation for "not gonna lie."
