200 People Arrested In Polk County Human Trafficking Operation

(Lakeland, FL) -- More than two-hundred people are facing charges in connection to Polk County's largest human trafficking bust.Out of the suspects arrested during the seven-day operation, three were Disney World employees and another was a Lake Wales school athletic director.  Almost half of those taken into custody are accused of traveling to an undercover location in an attempt to solicit sex work. Deputies say there were nearly two dozen victims rescued throughout the investigation, bringing the total to 45 people so far this year.

Fewer Floridians Seek Jobless Help

(Washington, DC) --New numbers show fewer Floridians are applying for unemployment.  The U.S. Labor Department reports initial claims for jobless benefits totaled about 52-hundred last week. That's a decrease of more than 700 from the previous week. Nationally, the number of new jobless filings jumped by two-thousand, coming in at 204-thousand.

New Law Preventing Dangerous Breed Ban To Take Effect

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A new law preventing the ban of so-called dangerous dog breeds in Florida counties will take effect this weekend.The legislation will bar local governments from outlawing specific dogs by weight, size and breeds, such as pit bulls.Housing officials will still be allowed to enforce their own pet policies within reason. The measure will also remove a grandfather provision which allowed Miami-Dade County and the city of Sunrise to enforce dog-breed restrictions. The law will take effect on Sunday.

Couple Suing Disney Over Painful Wedgie At Water Park

(Orlando, FL) -- A woman is suing Walt Disney World in connection to an injury she reportedly received while at one of its water parks.The lawsuit claims a woman was sent to the hospital after riding a two-hundred-foot slide at Typhoon Lagoon in 2019. The filing says she was seriously injured from a painful wedgie caused by the ride.She is accusing Orange County and Disney of negligence. The woman is suing for more than 50-thousand dollars in damages.

Florida Lottery Players Eye Huge Powerball Jackpot

(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida Lottery players have another shot at winning a big Powerball jackpot. The top prize for Saturday night's drawing will be for an estimated 925-million dollars after no one won Wednesday night. The drawing did produce four one-million-dollar winners, but none were in Florida. Saturday night's drawing will be broadcast live at 10:59 p.m. from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.

Suspect Stealing Guns For Zombie Apocalypse

(Whatcom County, WA) -- A suspect who broke into a Border Patrol Office in Whatcom County, WA said he was preparing for a zombie apocalypse. Court documents show that on August 28th, a Border Patrol agent at the port of entry near Lyden responded to an alarm and found Austin Giger, of Tigard, Oregon, in the office wearing a Customs and Border Protection jacket and body armor. He also had a gun, ammunition, and a radio. Giger said he believed he was in a zombie apocalypse. Giger has multiple felony convictions in Oregon. He's being held in custody until his trial.

Famous Ranch Hosting Whodunit

(Dallas, TX) -- There is a murder mystery at Southfork Ranch. No, it's not "who shot JR?" The owners of the property where the TV show "Dallas" was shot are hosting a party where guests have to act as detectives to solve a pretend killing. They are not ruling out that JR Ewing, or his ghost, could somehow be involved. Tickets cost 85-bucks and, if it's a success, the owners say there could be more murders in the future.
