Tallahassee Officer Seriously Hurt In Suspected Ambush Attack
(Tallahassee, FL) -- A Tallahassee police officer is in stable condition after he was reportedly ambushed by three suspects.Authorities say several officers were responding to a targeted, drug-related home invasion at an apartment complex yesterday. While an officer was chasing one of the suspects, another person started firing.The officer was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent surgery for serious injuries. Police say a manhunt is underway for everyone involved.
Parents Want Answers After School-Choice Scholarships Are Suspended
(Winter Park, FL) --Some upset parents in Orange County want answers after a surprise move by the governor. Governor Ron DeSantis announced last week that school choice scholarships were suspended at two Winter Park schools. DeSantis says Parke House Academy and Park Maitland have ties to the Chinese Communist Party, but some parents are skeptical. They say the accusation is pretty ludicrous, and DeSantis should provide proof. Some parents may have to move their kids to other schools, and one parent says everyone will suffer in that case. Judge Sides With State In Teacher Union Dispute
(Tampa, FL) --The union that represents teachers in Pinellas County is dealing with another defeat in its attempt to overturn a new state law. A federal judge last week denied a request by the union and other groups for a preliminary injunction against SB 256. The law prevents local governments from deducting union dues from members' paychecks.The unions argued it's unconstitutional because it violates contracts that require dues to be collected that way.The judge, though, ruled that the unions have other ways to collect dues. This was the plaintiffs' second attempt to get a preliminary injunction.
Railroad Expert Says Safety Features Were Not Required At Crash Site
(Plant City, FL) --A local railroad expert is calling out the train company for their role in a tragic crash in Hillsborough County.Six people were killed Saturday when a CSX train hit an SUV in Plant City. The sheriff's office says the driver of the SUV was trying to cross the tracks at the time. There are no crossing arms or other safety features at the site, and railroad operations analyst Michael Callanan says CSX doesn't have to install safety features on a private road. He tells 10 Tampa Bay that flashing lights and bells are expensive to install, and it's all about money. CSX, meanwhile, says installing active warning devices is up to the local authorities.

The state's Gaming Control Commission sent cease-and-desist letters last week to Underdog Sports, PrizePicks and Betr for reportedly taking part in illegal mobile sports wagering. The News Service of Florida reports that the panel did not submit notices to major daily fantasy sports games like DraftKings or FanDuel. The agency was created two years ago as part of an agreement reached with the Seminole Tribe, which gave the tribe control over sports betting in the Sunshine State.
