BML Monday: Music, Money & Mayhem

…commissioners dug in on sample ballot fight

Ask band parents and they’ll likely tell you they have no idea why football games break out around their kids’ scheduled performances! That’s how it seems, at least. You’d think in Alabama there would be a somewhat different view. We find one band director there who learned the hard way that football is about the game.

How in the world, or maybe where in the world, do you lose an F-35? You pilots in the region, care to enlighten us?

New Mexico’s governor has backed off on her emergency health order on firearms. She was losing on every front and maybe, finally, got the message.

In a feature story over the weekend, Florida Today shows that Brevard’s County Commission clearly doesn’t care about having informed voters. The commission seems dug in on keeping sample ballots out of voter hands with the unelected member, TransKristine- Jason Steele, being the most vocal of them all.

The RPOF has scrapped its loyalty pledge. It’s a good move and another good thing brought about by President Trump. If they wanted the leading candidate in their primary and their events, the pledge had to go. It may be the wisest thing I have seen the RPOF do…ever.

Welcome to the start of our talk week on BML.

BML Tuesday: Language, Loyalty & Lewdness

DAVE DOES HISTORY

This week we’ve seen a US Congresswoman loving up on her boyfriend in public. Could we now see a US Senator in a bikini on the Senate floor? Not that we’d want to, but Susan Collins says it’s possible. Was that a threat?

The Marines appear to have found their missing F-35.

President Trump apparently owns the RPOF. They have scrapped their loyalty pledge so Trump can be on our ballots. It’s a good move. Will they do the same for their membership or are they in a lower class of Republican? Speaking of elections, Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey will face a reelection challenge as former Mayor Kathy Meehan wants to return to the job. Let’s see, drag queen story hour or special rules for elected officials? That seems to be the choice.

In hour-three Dave Bowman is back with another edition of DAVE DOES HISTORY. Today we’ll get a look at George Washington’s farewell address. Dave’s insights are always enlightening. I’m looking forward to that.

Our day begins IN A HANDBASKET where language is in focus. It used to be that some words were not heard much in public conversation. That’s changed. Suzy Fleming Leonard’s observations in Florida Today get us thinking on this Tuesday.

BML: Tobia Exposed- the Toga’s Off

…Wide Open Wednesday

Remember when the integrity of the game meant something? It’s why Pete Rose is not in baseball’s Hall of Fame and why so many players, even in the NFL this season, are dealing with suspensions and the like. Apparently the integrity of the game is not so important anymore. It’s the integrity of the betting line that seems to matter. With professional sports in bed with gambling interests, the game itself is less important and it’s no longer about the game at all. It’s about the money and that puts The NFL IN A HANDBASKET.

The Brevard County Commission reversed itself last night when it comes to sample ballots. It’s an interesting move that tells us a lot about the commission, our Supervisor of Elections and…ourselves. Brevard voters of all stripes spoke out against the idea of letting the commission play politics with election policy and funding. We’ll talk the situation today and in Thursday’s 8am hour, Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic will join us to share his perspectives.

I have a bevy of stories about free speech on this WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY and I’ll get to them if you and time allow, but it is your day to sound off on anything that has your attention.

What’s it going to be? We’ll find out when you call us at 321-768-1240 on today’s BML.

BML Thursday: When Citizens Act

…SOE Tim Bobanic

We saw an excellent example this past week of citizen activism and its effectiveness when properly executed. You’ll now have sample ballots in Brevard County because of it. The county commission, in what would appear to be an abuse of power and an attempt to help one member vie for the Supervisor of Elections job, tried to limit information to Brevard voters in the form of these valuable tools for voting. In our 8am hour today SOE Tim Bobanic will join us to give us his perspectives on the events that led up to the commission’s reversal and where we go from here.

We’ll begin with a follow-up to yesterday’s IN A HANDBASKET story. Gambling has its dirty hands in the NFL and what happened with Rams’ coach Sean McVey is the confirmation.

Speaking of citizen activism- Moms for Liberty is the poster child for effective activist groups. M4L now has a campaign kit for school board candidates.I’m sure it can be helpful to candidates for other offices, as well. M4L is in this for the long haul and we’re glad that they are.

On the national scene, the FBI has a problem with handling informants and coordinating investigations.President Trump is outplaying the Democrats with the working man. When Trump skips the next primary debate he’ll be in Detroit talking to striking autoworkers. AG Garland is not good at the political game. He’s worse at testifying to congress.

BML Friday: Glass Houses

…the FBI & Informants

After a week that saw success by and for Brevard voters, we’ll close our week with a look at media, airports, the FBI and politics. You know, the usual fare.

One NY Times columnist is apparently fairly well known. He took to his craft to complain about the cost of an airport meal. He forgot he was living in that glass house. Other reporters are in focus with their jaded coverage that is personality or politics based rather than simply reporting the facts.

We had started on the FBI story yesterday, but ran out of time. We’ll revisit the idea of managing informants and investigations, especially on a big day like January 6th.

Rand Paul says it’s time to put America First (sound familiar?) and he’s not wrong. Also on the national front, the RNC has tightened the requirements for making the stage for the 3rd presidential primary debate. The bar’s pretty low, yet some candidates will not make it. That is a good thing.
