(Miami, FL)-- Miami officials will meet this weekend to discuss how to replace a suspended commissioner. Governor Ron DeSantis suspended District One City Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla last week after he was arrested. Diaz de la Portilla is facing charges that include bribery and money laundering. Commissioners will meet Saturday night at 6:00 to decide whether they want to appoint a new commissioner or call a special election.
Man Arrested For Anti-Semitic Display In Orlando
(Orlando, FL)-- A man is facing charges for an anti-Semitic display in Orlando. FDLE announced yesterday that Anthony Altick was arrested Sunday for an incident three months ago. The 36-year-old is accused of being part of a group that hung anti-Semitic banners on the Daryl Carter Parkway Bridge over I-4. He's the second person arrested for the incident.A Brevard County man was arrested last week. FDLE says it's looking for two more suspects.
HillsCo Teen Arrested For Shooting Threat
(Tampa, FL)-- A teenager is accused of threatening a school shooting in Hillsborough County. Thirteen-year-old Steven Jesus Echevarria was arrested yesterday for allegedly threatening to shoot students at Buchanan Middle School. The sheriff's office says he sent the threat through Snapchat to his girlfriend, who's an eighth grader at the school. Deputies found Echevarria had no access to guns at his home. Sheriff Chad Chronister says he implores parents to talk about social media and its proper use with their children.
HillsCo Deputies Praised For Handling Tense Standoff
(Tampa, FL)-- Deputies are drawing praise for how they handled a tense standoff with a teenage murder suspect in Hillsborough County. The sheriff's office yesterday released body cam video of Saturday's arrest of 14-year-old Adeem Berry in Riverview. He was wanted for a shooting that killed his mother and left her boyfriend in stable condition. The video shows Berry with a gun and threatening to kill himself, but deputies talked him into lowering the gun. When he reached for it again, they subdued him with a non-lethal round.Sheriff Chad Chronister says it's incredible to see the deputies remain calm, build a rapport with Berry and talk him down from hurting himself or anyone else. Berry is facing charges that include second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Disney's Magic Kingdom Reopens After Bear Sighting
(Bay Lake, FL) -- A Walt Disney World theme park is back to its regular operations after a bear spotted inside was captured. Florida wildlife officials caught the bear in a backstage area near the Magic Kingdom's Frontierland Monday. Disney temporarily closed down a portion of the park when the bear was first spotted.Experts believe the animal was most likely looking for food because they are normally trying to pack on extra fat before the start of winter. The FWC said the bear will be relocated to a nearby national forest.
