At Least Three Injured In Shooting At Palm Bay Apartment Complex

(Palm Bay, FL) --Police in Palm Bay are investigating a shooting. Several people were shot at an apartment complex around 8:30 Monday night. Police are investigating the incident at Park Apartments. At least three people were injured.

Volusia County Student Injured After Stabbing At School

(Volusia County, FL) -- A Volusia County student is injured after being stabbed with a pocket knife at school.It happened at University High School on Monday afternoon. The incident happened during an altercation at dismissal time. School administrators say the students involved will be disciplined.

Homicide Investigation Underway In Daytona Beach

(Daytona Beach, FL) -- A homicide investigation is underway in Daytona Beach. Twenty-four-year-old Donnell Williams died in a shooting just before midnight Sunday. This marks the 12th homicide of the year in Daytona Beach. Anyone with information on what happened is asked to call police.

Seventh Grader Arrested For Bringing A Weapon To Her School

(Interlachen, FL) -- A seventh grader has been arrested after being accused of bringing a loaded weapon to her school in Putnam County. Authorities say the 13-year-old girl had a BB gun at Interlachen Junior-Senior High School yesterday. The teen was not planning to use the weapon but said that she wanted to show it to fellow students. She is now facing a felony charge and discipline from the school.

Teen Accused In Countryside HS Stabbing To Be Tried As Adult

(Clearwater, FL) -- The teen suspect accused of stabbing two classmates at Countryside High School is being charged as an adult.Clearwater Police Chief Eric Gandy says 14-year-old Honor Walker had a manifesto and intentionally targeted the victims. Walker attacked another 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old male student in the hallway of the high school on August 31st, according to authorities. Both teens survived. Chief Gandy claims Walker is a fan of serial killers and carried out the attack in order to gain recognition. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Both Sides Want To Send Redistricting Case To Florida Supreme Court

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Both sides of an ongoing congressional redistricting case in Florida are pushing for a quicker resolution. The state and voting-rights groups filed a request to send the final ruling to the state Supreme Court late last week.Officials are trying to get a decision before the start of the new legislative season in January. The documents state an immediate resolution is needed to provide clarity to voters and potential candidates in the upcoming 2024 elections. Earlier this month, a Leon County circuit judge said the state's new map was unconstitutional and diminished the ability of Black voters to pick a representative of their choice. The decision will remain in place until the state's high court takes up the issue.

Margot Named Fifth Hurricane Of The Season

(Tampa, FL) --The National Hurricane Center is confirming Margot has reached hurricane status as of yesterday afternoon. As of yesterday's update, Hurricane Margot was located nearly 13-hundred miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds of 80-miles-per-hour. Margot is now the fifth hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic storm season.  

Are Georgians Losing Their Drawl?

(Athens, GA) --Are Georgians losing their famous drawl?Researchers at the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech say yes.According to the AJC, they collaborated on a study that shows residents have been shifting away from the standard accent over the past few generations. The study shows it really became noticeable with Gen X-ers, and is even more pronounced with Gen Z. However, the trend first began in the years after World War Two with an influx of people moving into the Peach State.
