Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday Starts This Weekend

(Tallahassee, FL) -- There will be another chance for Floridians to save on hurricane supplies this weekend. The state's Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday will begin on Saturday. It will allow people to buy generators, batteries, coolers and other disaster supplies without having to pay sales tax. It will run through Friday, September 8th.

Brevard County Teacher Arrested For Child Abuse

(Palm Bay, FL)-- A Brevard County teacher is accused of child abuse. Palm Bay Police yesterday arrested Sherena Budhu for aggravated child abuse. An investigation started Monday after a one-year-old at Pineapple Cove Academy was found with bruises and scratches. The 56-year-old Budhu has taught at the Bayside Lakes school for a year, but she's now on administrative leave. 

Mount Dora Accused Of Sponsoring 'Divisive' LGBTQ Program

(Mount Dora, FL)-- A new program meant to show support for LGBTQ people could wind up dividing businesses in Lake County. That's what some state lawmakers wrote in a letter sent recently to Mount Dora officials.The city council voted last week to start the Safe Place program. It allows companies to display rainbow decals to show their place is safe for the gay community and hate crime victims. Four state lawmakers that represent the county, though, say businesses that display the stickers could wind up facing the same backlash Target and Anheuser-Busch have faced for supporting the LGBTQ community. They add companies that don't participate in the program could also face backlash.   

Pasco County High School Football Program Suspended Indefinitely

(Land O'Lakes, FL) -- A Pasco County high school football program is on hold until further notice following a suspected locker room fight. The district says two junior varsity players were involved in the incident after football practice for Land O'Lakes High School on Monday. The team's operations and all coaching staff have been suspended until an investigation is complete. The Gators were scheduled to play at River Ridge on Friday night to kick off their regular season.

Accused Wrong-Way Driver Arrested After Speeding For Sex

(Sunset, UT) -- A Utah man is facing charges after he allegedly drove the wrong-way to have sex with a friend. Centerville police say William Emerson had hit speeds of 102 miles per hour before he was brought to a stop after going the wrong way through an active construction zone. At the Utah Highway Patrol office Emerson said he smoked marijuana before the incident and did it to have fun. A patrol trooper said Emerson showed no signs of regret and was excited about the experience.

Western Minnesota Teen Finds Wallet Dropped In Lake

(Moorhead, MN)-- A western Minnesota teen is getting high praise after making an unusual catch. Fourteen-year-old Connor Halsa was fishing at the lake during his family's summer vacation in the northern part of the state when he managed to reel in a wallet containing two-thousand dollars. The family found a business card inside the wallet and called the number, which eventually led them to Iowa farmer Jim Denney. Denney lost the wallet in the lake a year earlier and thought he would never see it again. Connor turned down a cash reward, but Denney did talk the teen into accepting dinner and the gift of a personalized cooler. Denney also said he'd be proud to have Connor as a grandson and "would fight for him any day."
