Equality Florida Starts New Parents Education Group
(Orlando, FL)-- A new group of parents hope to counter the influence of Moms for Liberty.Equality Florida announced yesterday in Orlando it has formed a group called Parenting with Pride. It's made up of families with LGBTQ children. A spokesman says Parenting with Pride marks a rise in the resistance against the agenda of conservative groups and politicians who have turned classrooms into political battlefields. One member of the new group tells the Orlando Sentinel the state should spend less time on which books kids are allowed to read and more on providing essential services for all our children.
Clay County Schools Investigating After Child Went Missing
(Green Cove Springs, FL)-- Two Clay County schools employees are on leave after losing track of a child. Dariel Stockman went to Argyle Elementary School on Friday to pick up her four-year-old daughter, but the girl wasn't there. Stockman says a teacher had put the girl in a group of students who walk home instead of with others who get picked up by a parent. A Good Samaritan found the girl hours later, wandering alone a few miles from the school, and the girl and her mom were reunited. The district is investigating. Stockman tells News4Jax she has still not gotten an apology from the teachers involved.
Tampa Business Owner Facing Criminal Charges
(Tallahassee, FL)-- A Tampa business owner is accused of stealing over a million dollars from his customers. Attorney General Ashley Moody announced yesterday that charges have been filed against Olympus Pools owner James Staten [[STATT-in]], Jr. He allegedly took money to install pools but never finished the work. Moody says Staten stole one-and-a-half million dollars from over a hundred victims since 2021 in Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, Manatee and Polk counties.He's facing charges that include grand theft and contractor fraud.
Pembroke Park Officials To Discuss Conduct Of Commissioner
(Pembroke Park, FL)-- The conduct of an elected official in Broward County will be the subject of an upcoming meeting. The Pembroke Park Town Commission will meet tomorrow to discuss the behavior of Commissioner Geoffrey Jacobs. A recent report found Jacobs created a hostile, volatile and toxic work environment and violated the town's code of conduct. The mayor says Jacobs shows no level of respect for any of his colleagues.
Suspected Prowler Arrested, Accused of Stalking Daughter of Former Laker
(Glendale, CA) -- A man is behind bars on suspicion of peeping and prowling at home in Glendale. The 47-year-old was arrested Sunday. Police say they caught him staring into a home while kids were inside. Former Laker Robert Horry [[ Orry ]] and his wife say the same guy stalked their daughter more than a decade ago, when she was a teenager. Following his arrest, video was posted to social media, appearing to show the same man getting uncomfortably close to women and sniffing them inside of a bookstore in Burbank. The man previously spent eight years in prison for peeping and prowling. Since he was released, he has been arrested several times on suspicion of doing the same thing.
Reno Resident Can Keep 'GOBK2CA' License Plate
(Reno, NV) -- A Reno, Nevada resident is free to keep telling other drivers to go back to California.On Monday, a Department of Motor Vehicles administrative judge ruled he can keep his license plate, which reads "GOBK2CA." The man has had the license plate for 19 years. Last month, a post about it went viral on Facebook. A few days later, the Nevada DMV issued a recall, saying it was offensive. A judge says the license plate owner is grandfathered in after having it for so many years.
