Poll Shows DeSantis Slipping To 3rd In GOP Presidential Race
(Kissimmee, FL) --A new national poll shows Florida Governor Ron DeSantis slipping to third place in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. The Kaplan Strategies survey found entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy with eleven percent support, followed by DeSantis at ten percent. The same poll last month showed DeSantis and Ramaswamy tied at 12 percent. They trail former President Trump who leads with 48 percent.
DeSantis Open To Talks With Disney CEO
(Undated) --Governor Ron DeSantis apparently wants peace with Disney. DeSantis told CNBC yesterday that he's willing to talk to Disney CEO Bob Iger.Disney is suing the state, and DeSantis says the company should drop the suit because it's going to lose. He also says no one has made Disney more money recently than him because he allowed Disney parks to stay open during the pandemic.
Orlando Extends Nightclub Moratorium
(Orlando, FL) --Orlando's ban on new downtown nightclubs will be in effect for six more months. The city council voted unanimously yesterday to extend the nightclub moratorium until March 2024. The moratorium was originally passed this March. It was set to expire next month. The moratorium was part of a package of new regulations meant to make the downtown safer.
Thirteen Hurt In Airboat Collision In Osceola County
(Kissimmee, FL) --Thirteen people are hurt after two airboats collided in Osceola County. It happened yesterday afternoon at Wild Florida Airboats and Gator Park on Cypress Lake near Poinciana. There's no word on the conditions of those injured. The Coast Guard is investigating, and Wild Florida says it's conducting an internal investigation.
Mother Of Escambia County Murder Suspect Arrested
(Pensacola, FL) --The mother of an Escambia County murder suspect is now facing charges herself. Sheila Agee was arrested yesterday in Alabama as a principal to first-degree murder. Her 20-year-old son, Keith, was arrested Friday for a shooting at a Pensacola Home Depot on Davis Highway that killed 18-year-old Brooklyn Sims. The sheriff's office says she's the mother of Keith Agee's two-year-old daughter. Deputies say Sheila Agee knew and helped Keith coordinate the murder. Sheriff Chip Simmons says the murder itself is unbelievable, but to know the mother knew about it and helped coordinate it is incomprehensible.
Mark Zuckerberg: Elon Musk Isn't Serious About Cage Fight
(Menlo Park, CA) --Mark Zuckerberg doesn't think Elon Musk is actually serious fighting him in MMA. The Meta CEO wrote in a Threads post that "Elon isn't serious and it's time to move on." He and Musk talked about a cage match, but last week Musk said he's not sure about when it would happen because he may need a minor surgery. Musk teased a potential "epic location" that he said he settled on with Italian officials and added it would be livestreamed on X and Meta.
American Drinking Habits Stay Steady At 62 Percent
(Washington, DC) --Americans are consuming alcohol at a steady rate. Gallup's latest Consumption Habits
poll shows that 62-percent of Americans said they had "occasion to use alcoholic beverages such as liquor, wine or beer."That's in line with its findings for more than eight decades that the company has been tracking the number. It peaked in the late 70s at 71-percent. Meanwhile, this year 38-percent said they do not drink at all and 24-percent of them saying they don't care for alcohol at all. For those who do drink, 69-percent said they drank in the past week and 32-percent in the past day.
