Seven Arrested Following Tampa Bay Human Trafficking Sting

(Tampa, FL) -- Seven people are facing charges following an undercover human trafficking operation in Tampa Bay. Hillsborough County deputies say the four-day sting was designed to target men who were trying to exploit children through the internet. Each suspect traveled to a home thinking they were going to have sex with the minors, but instead were taken into police custody. Seven men were arrested. Sheriff Chad Chronister says these operations show the agency's commitment to preventing these crimes.

UM Students Lose Lawsuit Against School

(Tallahassee, FL) --The University of Miami can claim victory in a legal battle with some students. The Florida Supreme Court ruled yesterday the school does not need to repay students for blocking services during the pandemic. Some students filed a class action suit against UM for denying them in-person learning and access to campus buildings. They wanted their tuition refunded, but the court rejected the claim. According to the News Service of Florida, the judges ruled UM was required by the county and the state to shut down its campus. 

Federal Judge Throws Out Kraft Mac And Cheese Lawsuit

(Hialeah, FL) -- A federal judge in South Florida is putting an end to a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Kraft Heinz Food Company.A Miami-Dade County woman filed the suit late last year claiming the company was misleading customers about how long it takes to prepare its Velveeta microwavable mac and cheese.The company was accused of violating federal law by saying the food takes three-and-a-half minutes to prepare, arguing it did not include the time it takes to remove the lid and add water.A Miami district judge tossed out the case last week saying the woman did not have enough standing to follow through with the five-million dollar class action lawsuit.

NYC Ban On Utensils From Takeout And Delivery Orders

(New York, NY) --A new law that bans restaurants and eateries in New York City from voluntarily handing out utensils, condiment packets and napkins in takeout and delivery orders kicked in Monday. People must specifically request the items to get them in their orders. The so-called "Skip the Stuff" law aims to reduce plastic use to help the environment. Businesses have a grace period until July of next year before they face actual fines of up to 400-dollars. For now, they'll receive warnings if caught violating the law.
