While speaking in Jacksonville on Friday, Harris said extremists in the state are misleading children by teaching what she calls revisionist history. Harris questioned how anyone could suggest that slavery provided any benefit to the enslaved.
Driskell Calls For Diaz To Step Down As Education Commissioner
(Tampa, FL)-- A Tampa politician is calling for the state's top education official to resign. State Rep. and House Democratic Caucus Leader Fentrice Driskel asked Saturday for the resignation of Education Commissioner Manny Diaz. Driskell is upset over the state's new social studies curriculum saying it is dangerous revisionist history, and it's the latest effort by the governor's extremist administration to suppress the stories and freedom of diverse Americans.Driskell adds our children must have an accurate portrayal of history, and that process necessarily starts with the resignation of Diaz.
Three Hurt In Volusia County Shooting
(Daytona Beach, FL)-- Three people are hurt after a shooting in Volusia County. Daytona Beach Police say they were shot Saturday night during a fight outside Razzle's Nightclub on Seabreeze Boulevard. The victims are expected to survive. No arrest has been announced, but police posted photos on Facebook of a woman they call a person of interest.
Police Investigating After Suitcases Containing Human Remains Found In Delray Beach
(Delray Beach, FL)-- Police are investigating after three suitcases containing human remains were pulled from the ocean late Friday afternoon in Delray Beach. Police say officers were called to the scene along the Intracoastal Waterway near the one-thousand block of Palm Trail around 4 p.m. on a report that a single, suspicious suitcase had been found. The other two suitcases were discovered in the area a short time later. Investigators determined that the remains in all three cases were those of an as-yet-unidentified woman.
Florida A&M Coach Suspends Football Activities
(Tallahassee, FL)-- All football activities are being suspended at Florida A&M University.On Friday, football coach Willie Simmons announced via Twitter that "all football related activities" are banned after an unauthorized music video was shot inside the school's locker room. Simmons said the video contained "graphic language" and "licensed apparel" that may violate the school's branding agreements. While Simmons didn't name the musician behind the video, rapper Real Boston Richey posted a music video the same day showing him inside a locker room while wearing a FAMU polo shirt and helmet.FAMU football has been suspended "until further notice."
