Judge Approves Reenactment of Parkland School Massacre
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- A reenactment of the deadly mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida could take place within the next month. A Broward County judge approved a motion earlier today to allow two reenactments of when a gunman opened fire in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018, killing 17 people and injuring 17 others. The request was filed by four families of the victims and a survivor.Court documents say the goal is to record the exercises as part of a civil case against former resource officer Scot Peterson. He was recently acquitted for his actions on the day of the shooting. The judge wants the reenactment to take place before school starts in August.
Four Teens Arrested After Shooting At South Florida Police
(Miami, FL) -- Four teenagers are in custody after they reportedly shot at South Florida police.Authorities say a Miami police officer was trying to pull over a car after it ran a red light Tuesday night.As the suspect's car continued to drive off, a passenger started firing shots out of the window. The car eventually stopped inside a neighborhood and the four suspects tried to ran away. A 16-year-old, two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old were taken into custody.
Three Killed In Volusia County Shooting
(Daytona Beach, FL)-- Three men are dead after a shooting in Volusia County. It happened yesterday morning in Daytona Beach on Park Drive. A suspect is in custody. Police say 38-year-old Jerome Anderson admitted to shooting his roommate, a neighbor and a homeless man often seen in the neighborhood. Anderson told investigators it was self-defense. He's charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Orlando Police Release Body Cam Video Of Deadly Police Shooting
(Orlando, FL)-- Bodycam video of a deadly police shooting in Orlando is now out.The OPD yesterday released the video of the shooting last week that killed Derek Diaz at East Jefferson Street and North Orange Ave. Diaz was being questioned in his car as part of a drug investigation, and the OPD says the officer shot Diaz when Diaz made a motion like he was reaching for a gun.No gun was found, though. You can watch the video at the Orlando Police Department's YouTube page. The FDLE is investigating the shooting, and the officer who shot the 26-year-old is on administrative leave.
Florida Snake Hunters Catch Largest Burmese Python Ever Measured
(Naples, FL)-- Some Florida snake hunters have caught the largest Burmese python ever measured. The 19-foot python was caught Monday at the Big Cypress National Preserve, and it's now being studied at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in Naples. The previous record for a Burmese python was 18-feet ten-inches long, and that snake was also found in southern Florida back in 2020. Snake hunter Jake Waleri says it's actually a bit concerning because, in his words, "these snakes are getting bigger every year."
