Central Florida Judge To Hear Arguments In Lawsuit Against Disney

(Orlando, FL) -- A Central Florida judge is expected to hear arguments in a lawsuit against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts later this week. Disney is asking the court to throw out the suit filed by the newly appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board who oversees the company's property. Officials want a judge to rule that a series of last-minute deals Disney made with its former oversight board members are null and void. Disney is suggesting the case is at least delayed until its federal lawsuit against the state is resolved. Arguments are scheduled to begin on Friday.

Man Wanted By Central Florida Police Killed By U.S. Marshals

(Jersey City, NJ) -- A murder suspect wanted in Central Florida is dead after he was shot by U.S. Marshals in New Jersey. Authorities were trying to serve an arrest warrant for 56-year-old Esteban De Jesus in Jersey City on Saturday night. He is accused of killing a woman and injuring her husband at an Orlando apartment complex the day before. Jesus was shot by federal agents and later died from his injuries. New Jersey's attorney general is investigating the moments leading up to the suspect's death. 

Prison Guard Blames Lack Of Staff For Nassar Stabbing

(Sumterville, FL)-- A staffing shortage could be a factor in a high-profile inmate attack in Sumter County. Former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar was stabbed Sunday at the Coleman Correctional Facility in Sumterville. Prison Guard Peyton Perry says the facility is short-staffed, and employees are overworked and tired. He says that gives inmates the opportunity to attack each other, and there have been numerous assaults this year. Still, Perry says this is the first high-profile assault this year, and he's shocked Nassar was the target because of how quiet he is. The Bureau of Prisons tells 8 On Your Side the facility's staffing level is less than 90 percent.       

Six-Year-Old Bites Suspected Kidnapper To Get Free

(Miami, FL) -- South Florida police say the brave actions of a six-year-old girl led to the arrest of her suspected kidnapper over the weekend. Authorities say the victim was playing with her siblings at their Miami apartment complex late last week when 32-year-old Leonardo Venegas got out of his car and grabbed her. The girl reportedly fought back and bit Venegas on the arm, forcing him to drop her.Police used surveillance footage to locate and arrest Venegas on Saturday. Detectives are concerned there may be more victims.

Prime Day: Avoid Scams

(Seattle, WA)-- With Amazon's Prime Day sales event today and tomorrow, the company is warning customers to watch out for scammers. Scammers posing as Amazon representatives is quite common and leads to millions of dollars in losses every year. The company says if there's a suspicious text or email asking to get in touch or to download software, do not reply. Instead contact Amazon customer service directly. Never pay for something you didn't order and be wary of anyone asking for a payment over the phone.  

WA Man Loses Consciousness During Skydive

(Seattle, WA)-- A Washington State man is lucky to be alive after passing out while skydiving earlier this week. The State Patrol says the man lost consciousness, but his emergency parachute opened and he landed in a tree. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Officials say he appears to be ok. 

WWII Tugboat Returns To Volusia County

(DeLand, FL) -- A World War II [[ two ]] tugboat is back in Florida after nearly 80 years. The more than 140-ton vessel, also known as the Tiger, is the only U.S. Army ST tugboat to return to the same place it was built. Earlier this week, the Tiger docked in DeLand, North of Orlando, after it was towed from Europe. The Tiger was used during the Normandy invasion and spent some time along the English Channel before it was bought by a couple in Sweden. The plan is to keep the boat in Lake Beresford until a permanent monument is built.
