Peterson Acquitted On All Charges
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- Parents of some of the Parkland school shooting victims are upset after the jury's verdict in Scot Peterson's trial. Jurors yesterday acquitted the school resource officer of all charges. The 60-year-old was accused of child neglect for failing to confront Nikolas Cruz as Cruz went on a deadly shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018. Tony Montalto lost his daughter in the shooting, and he says he doesn't understand how the jury could have found Peterson not guilty. The parent of another victim tells Local 10 News Peterson valued his life over the people in that building.
Port Canaveral Expands To Accommodate World's Largest Cargo Ships
(Port Canaveral, FL) -- Port Canaveral can now accommodate some of the world's largest cargo ships after completing its latest project. Officials opened a nearly nine-hundred-foot berth earlier today, which will allow the facility to house bigger vessels. In the coming weeks, the port will begin a nearly forty-million dollar project to further expand its cargo operations.
Man Arrested For Disturbance At OIA
(Orlando, FL) -- An Ohio man is facing charges for allegedly attacking a police officer at Orlando International Airport. Police say the 41-year-old was arguing with a Spirit Airlines ticket agent on Tuesday, and when an officer approached, the man tackled the officer to the ground.While on the ground, the man allegedly choked the officer. The officer told investigators he started to lose consciousness, but he was saved when other officers came to his aid. The man is charged with attempted murder.
Florida Decriminalizes Fentanyl Testing Strips
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida is now among more than 30 states to decriminalize fentanyl test strips.A bill was signed into law earlier this week that will no longer classify the test strips as drug paraphernalia.The CDC endorses the tool as a way to reduce the risk of drug overdoses. According to the latest 2021 report, state health officials say more than six-thousand people died from overdoses involving opioids. The new law will go into effect on Saturday.
Teen Filmed 'Shotgunning' Twisted Tea With Alligator
(Plant CIty, FL)-- A Florida teen caught on camera "shotgunning" an alcoholic drink with a baby alligator has been criminally charged. The video taken outside of a popular Plant City restaurant shows the teen picking up the reptile, holding it in the air and chugging the drink -- with the young gator's jaws gripping the can. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reportedly caught wind of the video circulating on social media --which led authorities to charge one of the teens for taking the alligator without a permit. The good news the baby gator was captured and released in a local retention pond-- where it is alive and well
Handbag "Smaller Than Grain Of Salt" Sells For $63,000
(Undated) -- A handbag that's almost too small to see fetched a really big price at auction Wednesday. The fluorescent yellowish-green bag sold for more than 63-thousand dollars in an online auction. It's based on a popular Louis Vuitton [[ LOO-ee vuh-TAHN ]] design but isn't made by the luxury label. It's the work of a New York art collective that calls the creation "Microscopic Handbag." The group says the bag, that measures less than three-hundredths of an inch wide, is narrow enough to pass through the eye of a needle and "smaller than a grain of sand."
