DOE Lays Out Proposed Rules Tied To New State Laws

(Tallahassee, FL) -- The Florida Department of Education is laying out a series of proposed rules in connection to new state laws taking effect this weekend. The regulations would ban live performances, like drag shows, at school-sponsored events and block school districts from using TikTok on campus. It would also allow caregivers to decide if their child can use a nickname instead of their legal name in school. A hearing to discuss the changes is scheduled next month.

FDOT Pauses Plans To Replace Drawbridge In Brevard County

(Port Canaveral, FL)-- Plans to replace drawbridges in Brevard County are on hold. FDOT decided last week to temporarily stop plans to replace the drawbridges on SR 401 near Port Canaveral. State Rep. Thad Altman says some are worried that the new fixed-span bridge wouldn't be tall enough to accommodate barges making deliveries to space facilities. Port Canaveral officials and commuters may not like FDOT's decision, but Altman supports it. He tells Florida Today it's better to do the project right the first time than to find out later it was done wrong.      

Florida Airports Experiences Hundreds Of Delays Ahead Of Holiday Weekend

(Orlando, FL) -- Hundreds of flights across Florida are experiencing major delays ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Orlando International Airport is facing the biggest impacts with FlightAware reporting nearly two-hundred delays and more than 30 cancellations. Travelers at all major airports across the state are seeing dozens of delays due to severe weather earlier in the week. The setbacks are happening right before the start of the busy Fourth of July travel season on Friday. More than two-point-eight-million Floridians are planning to travel at least 50 miles over the holiday weekend with air travel expected to increase by eleven-percent.

Florida Plans To Open World's Largest Buc-ee's 

(Ocala, FL) -- Florida is planning to build the world's largest gas station. The state says it will construct a new Buc-ee's location in Marion County with more than seven-hundred parking spots. The 80-thousand-square-foot travel center is expected to open in 2025 near I-75, just north of Ocala. Currently, the country's biggest Buc-ee's is in Tennessee after holding its grand opening earlier this week.

California Man Sentenced For Ponzi

(Fresno, CA)-- A California man is being sentenced to almost seven years in prison for running a scam centering around cow manure. Officials say Ray Brewer bilked investors of around nine million dollars, claiming he could turn cow dung into green energy. From 2014 to 2019 Brewer claimed his business CH4 Power, built machines on dairies in California and Idaho to turn biodegradable material into methane. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud, money laundering, and identity theft charges.
