DeSantis Shares Update On Operation Lone Star
(Tallahassee, FL) --Floridians helping along the southern border appear to be busy. Governor Ron DeSantis shared an update yesterday on the efforts of the National Guard, FDLE, FHP and others that are part of Operation Lone Star in Texas.DeSantis says they have made contact with over 10-thousand undocumented migrants and assisted Texas law enforcement with over 600 arrests. He says those arrested include one wanted for capital murder and an MS-13 gang member on the US Terror Watch List.
Flagler County School Board To Vote On Arming Teachers
(Bunnell, FL) --A controversial school safety proposal is up for a vote today in Flagler County. The school board is expected to vote on a plan to arm teachers and other school employees. A district official tells News 6 the guardian program would arm 15 employees in nine schools.If approved, training would start in a year.
Brevard County Announces Raises For School Bus Drivers
(Titusville, FL) --Brevard County is taking steps to address a shortage of school bus drivers. The school board announced yesterday it's raising the starting pay from 15 to 20 dollars an hour. All current drivers will get a raise of five dollars an hour. The school board is expected to hold a final vote on the change next week, and the raises would go into effect July First. The district has 90 bus driver vacancies. Superintendent Mark Rendell says this is a significant pay increase that will help attract new drivers and retain current ones.
Sanford Police Officer Arrested For Drunk Driving
(Sanford, FL) --A police officer finds herself on the wrong side of the law in Seminole County. Sanford Police Officer Brittany Rainsford was arrested Sunday for drunk driving on SR 46 while in her personal pickup truck. FHP says the 32-year-old admitted to drinking a couple beers, and she flunked a field sobriety test. After Rainsford was brought to jail, troopers say a breath test found her blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit. Sanford Police say she's suspended without pay as they investigate.
Doral To Stop Issuing Tickets From Red Light Cameras
(Doral, FL) --A city in Miami-Dade County is stopping use of its red light cameras. Starting today, the city of Doral is no longer using the cameras to issue fines to drivers who run red lights. City officials say studies found the intersections that had the cameras had more accidents than those that didn't. It appears drivers would slam on the brakes at yellow lights to avoid getting fined for running a red light, but that led to more rear-end collisions as the drivers behind them couldn't stop in time. Doral's vice mayor tells CBS News Miami the city will still use the cameras but not for issuing tickets.
21-Year-Old Solves Rubik's Cube In Fastest Time Ever
(Long Beach, CA) --A 21-year-old California man is celebrating his tenth Guinness World Record. He solved a Rubik's Cube in the fastest time ever -- only three-point-13 seconds.Max Park won his first cubing competition at age ten against graduates from MIT and CalTech. He started working the puzzle as therapy after being diagnosed with autism. Rubik's shared a video of the feat on Instagram, calling it "mind blowing."
