Satellite Beach Residents Reporting Damages After Possible Tornado Touches Down

(Satellite Beach, FL)- Satellite Beach residents are reporting damage after a possible tornado hit the area of South Patrick Shores. The Brevard County Emergency Management Office says the possible twister touched down around 5:30 Wednesday evening. That would've been during a tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service for Brevard County. Anyone with property or home damage is asked to send photos and descriptions of the damage to Brevard County Emergency Management. 

Controversial Land Ownership Law Sparks Backlash In Florida

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Chinese citizens are challenging Florida's new law that blocks them and others from owning land in the state. The law takes effect July first. Critics say it runs the risk of creating "Chinese exclusion zones" in many parts of the state. Governor Ron DeSantis signed FL SB-264 into law last month.

Trial Begins For Former Deputy Accused Of Not Stopping Parkland School Shooter

(Broward County, FL)- The trial is underway for a former Broward County deputy accused of not stopping the Parkland school shooter. The prosecution and defense made opening statements Wednesday. The prosecutor says former deputy Scot Peterson could have confronted the shooter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and prevented six of the 17 deaths in the 2018 shooting. Instead, the prosecutor accuses Peterson of taking cover despite undergoing active shooter training that told Peterson to go toward the gunshots. If Peterson is convicted, he faces a long prison sentence and could lose his annual pension.

United Launch Alliance Has Successful Engine Test Fire For Rocket At Cape Canaveral

(Cape Canaveral, FL)- United Launch Alliance is celebrating the successful engine test fire of the new Vulcan Centaur rocket. The flight readiness firing test at Cape Canaveral happened just after 9 p.m. Wednesday following many delays. The test was first scheduled two weeks ago, but was called off due to a delayed response from the system used to power up the engines. On Wednesday, the flight readiness firing happened three hours after initially planned.

Two Groups Cancel Conventions Scheduled For Orlando Over Political Climate

(Orlando, FL)- Two different groups are canceling conventions originally planned for Orlando. AnitaB.org tells the Orlando Sentinel they are moving the annual convention due to concerns over Florida's political climate. The California-based group cited legislation on abortion, concealed gun carry, and measures affecting the LGBTQ community. A group of nurses is also pulling out of an event planned at the Orange County Convention Center for 2027 over similar concerns. 

Woman Accused Of Forcing Roommate Into Prostitution

(College Station, TX) -- A woman is facing charges for allegedly forcing her roommate into prostitution. Police in College Station said Amanda Bonner made her roommate have sex with "numerous customers" in order to help her pay rent. According to KBTX-TV, Bonner told investigators the roommate "had to pay bills to live here." She was arrested after officers executed a search warrant at their residence last Friday.

Caltech Researches Show Power Can Be Transmitted Wirelessly From Space

(Pasadena, CA)-- A team of Southern California researchers made a major milestone this week.For the first time ever, power was transmitted wirelessly through space and detected at a precise location on earth.The solar power experiment is still in it's early stages. Caltech scientists hope some day to be able to beam power to specific places, such as remote regions and places devastated by natural disasters or war. Officials tout Caltech's SSPP project as an example of modern, private-sector aerospace research at work. Caltech President Thomas F. Rosenbaum said the milestone foreshadows "a remarkable payoff for humanity: a world powered by un-interruptible renewable energy."
