Here’s a recap of the week…

BML Tuesday: The Debt Debate

…from baseball to balance sheets

Welcome back from the Memorial Day weekend. It was a busy and violent one. The news and life around us didn’t stop for the holiday, either. Here are the stories that caught my attention over the long weekend:

The Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to be everything to everyone. Elon Musk’s Nuralink got approval for human trials.Nobody in business seems to be learning from Bud Light’s marketing disaster. A black Florida business owner says the NAACP travel ban should be ignored.Governor Ron DeSantis begins his campaign for the Republican nomination to the presidency and he seems to be on message. The House Speaker and the President reached a compromise on the debt ceiling and the purity debate is raging.

Dave Bowman is still on his tour of the United States. There are links to his podcasts below. Let’s get to this week’s discussion.

BML: WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY

…blubber & books

I have nothing against folks who carry a little extra weight. I’ve been known to do that myself. But the truth is it’s not good for us. Remember NYC adding taxes to sugared drinks and banning the purchase of huge size drinks? Now the mayor is declaring there is nothing wrong with being overweight. He also claims it’s perfectly healthy. Blubber lands IN A HANDBASKET this morning.

Brevard Schools has formed the new book review committee, but the policy they are set to follow could be changing. It seems like it may need the change.

Ron DeSantis had a strong start to his campaign trip. It would appear the governor will be a force in the Republican Presidential Primary.

The debt ceiling discussion continues as congress tries to bring a compromise about. Not everyone’s happy and, no matter what, it will stay that way.

It’s WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY. Anything is up for grabs topic wise. It’s up to you.

What’s on your mind?

BML Thursday: Rainbow Pets!

…dialing up the crazy

When you think things could not go any crazier, after all corporations going all-in on gender politics is pretty crazy, here we go deeper into the abyss. Now our pets are being drawn into the culture wars of gender identity. Finally someone at ESPN is speaking up for women athletes.  Samantha Ponder (along with Sage Steele) is speaking in support of fairness in competition and supporting Riley Gaines in her messaging. Naturally the liberal sports media can’t let that go, although ESPN surprisingly is. Ponder is speaking truth and Jason Whitlock has an interesting point regarding Ponder and her male ESPN counterparts.

And Bud Light, apparently, hasn’t suffered enough. The former beer giant made a big announcement about donating to the LGBT chamber of commerce. The pander is strong in Bud Light.

The forced masking of a Brevard special needs student led to a lawsuit that has now been largely dismissed. Twelve of fifteen counts were decided in the school district’s favor. The three remaining counts may be pursued again by the family.

BPS Library Porn is again in focus as the new review committee is ready to go to work. The review policy itself could be again revised as allowing anonymous complaints has resulted in a bevy of challenges.

BML Friday: AI and Life…all of it

…work or walk?

There are some days the show produces itself. Today is one of those days. As I researched topics for this morning’s discussion a theme became apparent, almost as if it was by design. It may have been, but it wasn’t my design. Maybe Ai is driving my research and I don’t know it.

IN A HANDBASKET we’ll look at the idea of walking off the job for a political protest. It doesn’t make sense to me. Where are thoughts of responsibility to our families, or if a business owner, to our customers? Is the cause going to care as much about you as you are about it? That’s doubtful, but it’s happening anyway.

Once that’s done we move on to, surprisingly enough, Artificial Intelligence. As I searched the usual sources, the subject of AI kept popping up in front of me. From politics and employment to defense, robots, scams and more, one AI story after another was there.

Had AI driven the content I was seeing?Did the Fox News site keep feeding me something it perceived I was interested in pursuing? Maybe. None the less, AI is and will impact nearly every aspect of our lives and we have a boatload of examples in the stories posted below.

Is AI good, bad or just a tool to be bent to its user’s desires? Does it have a mind of its own? I could not escape it as the show came together this morning. We’ll live in the world of AI on today’s BML.
