FDOT Plans To Crackdown On Distracting Driving

 (Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida transportation officials are working on a plan to crackdown on distracted drivers. The FDOT will launch a campaign, known as "Target Zero," today throughout Central Florida. State troopers are joining the initiative in an effort to reduce the number of serious injuries and death on the roadways to zero. Traffic enforcement will put a special focus on men in their 20s due to reports finding this group is responsible for more than half of dangerous car crashes. The FHP is encouraging people who see a distracted driver to report it by dialing star-347.

Air Force Selects Brevard County As Preferred Home Of Starcom

(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- Brevard County could be the headquarters for those training to be part of the U.S. Space Force. The Air Force announced yesterday it has chosen Patrick Space Force Base as its preferred location for Space Training and Readiness Command Headquarters, or Starcom.The Air Force says Starcom is responsible for the deliberate development, education and training of space professionals and space warfighting. An environmental impact analysis will be conducted before the decision is final.Starcom has been temporarily headquartered in Colorado since it was created two years ago. 

Local Businesses Closing To Protest Immigration Laws

(Sanford, FL)-- Some area businesses will be closed today to protest a new law.Governor Ron DeSantis last month signed into law a bill that suspends a business' license if it hires illegal immigrants. It'll take effect July First. To show their opposition, some businesses won't open today. In Seminole County, Jose Sivira won't open his Mexican market in Sanford. He says the new law will cause him to lose customers who are trying to move to other states. Isabel Gaspar manages a Mexican restaurant in Sanford, and she tells Fox 35 News maybe today's protest will show what could happen if more immigrants leave the state.

Pilot Rescued After Ejecting Off Key West

(Key West, FL)-- A pilot is out of the hospital after a rescue at sea in the Keys. The Navy rescued one of its pilots yesterday morning after he ejected from his training jet off Key West. He was picked up in a Navy helicopter about 25 miles from Boca Chica Field, taken to the hospital and released. There's no word on why he ejected, but Naval Air Station Key West says it's investigating.    

Airline To Weigh Passengers Before Boarding The Airplane

(Undated) -- Air New Zealand is going to ask passengers to step on a scale before they board the airplane. The passenger weight survey is a way to gather data on the weight load and distribution for planes. Travelers will be asked to stand on a digital scale when they check in for their flight. In order to protect individuals privacy, the airline says it has made the data anonymous -- because not everyone wants to disclose their weight.
