DeSantis Signs Bills In Tampa Ceremony

(Tampa, FL) -- A new series of laws will let kids be kids. That's what Governor Ron DeSantis said yesterday at a bill-signing ceremony in Tampa at the Cambridge Christian School. The governor put his name on a stack of bills that affect Florida's LGBTQ community. Among them were measures to ban gender-transition care for minors, restrict the use of preferred pronouns at school, and criminalize the attendance of children at 'adult live performances.' DeSantis says the laws will protect children from permanent mutilating surgical procedures, gender identity politics in schools and attending sexually explicit performances.He says as the world goes mad, Florida represents a refuge of sanity and a citadel of normalcy. 

State's Largest Publisher Sues School District Over Book Ban

(Pensacola, FL) -- The nation's largest publisher is suing a school district in the Florida Panhandle over an alleged book ban. Penguin Random House and PEN America have filed a lawsuit against Escambia County Public Schools claiming the removal of reading materials in its media centers is unconstitutional. DeSantis says "Florida empowers parents by ensuring curriculum transparency and will continue to ensure that our tax dollars are spent on education, not indoctrination." The Pensacola News Journal reports school board members are accused of restricting access to books discussing race and LGBTQ-plus identities, despite recommendations from a review committee. More than one-hundred books have been challenged within the district since it began its review process last year and at least six have been removed. 

Orlando Police Investigating Anti-Gay Traffic Sign

(Orlando, FL) -- Orlando Police are investigating what the mayor calls a disgusting display. A digital traffic sign at Lake Nona Boulevard and Nemours Parkway yesterday morning read, 'Kill All Gays.' The OPD believes the sign was tampered with, and they're looking for who's responsible. Mayor Buddy Dyer says hate has no place in Orlando, and the message displayed is not who we are as a community.  

Bond Revoked For Brevard County Carjacking Suspect

(Titusville, FL)-- A Brevard County man described by his ex-wife as pure, pure evil will remain behind bars. A judge yesterday revoked bond for Titusville's Dax Rodriguez. The 52-year-old was arrested last week for allegedly threatening his ex-girlfriend. He was ordered not to have contact with his ex, but the sheriff's office says he violated that order when he reached out to her while behind bars and threatened to kill her. Rodriguez also allegedly threatened her sister and his ex-wife, Janet. The judge says Rodriguez is too much of a risk, and Janet tells News 6 she firmly believes he would have carried out his threats.

Lightning Hits Volusia County Church

(Ormond Beach, FL)-- A lightning strike is blamed for starting a fire in Volusia County.Historic New Bethel - AME Church in Ormond Beach caught fire yesterday after it was hit by lightning. No one was inside at the time, and no injuries were reported. There's no word on how much damage was caused. The church formed in 1885; it was the city's first AME church. 

Flights Delayed At OIA Due To Dead Armadillo

(Orlando, FL) -- A dead armadillo is responsible for disrupting flight plans at Orlando International Airport. The roadkill was seen yesterday morning on the tarmac, and the runway was temporarily closed. OIA says two other runways were undergoing routine maintenance and construction, and that left just one open runway for about 20 minutes. This led to over 40 flights being delayed for up to an hour.
