Florida Education Leaders Reject Some Social Student Textbooks
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida education leaders are making sure its textbooks fall under the state's new standards. The State Department of Education says it rejected 35-percent of elementary and middle school social studies textbooks they received from publishers. Officials did approve a majority of the more than one-hundred books submitted, but not until many of them were updated following recommendations from the state.Education Commissioner Manny Diaz says the goal is to make sure the materials are free from inaccuracies or ideological rhetoric. Critics have spoken out against the move with some saying they believe Florida is trying to whitewash history.
Man Stabbed By Child In Pasco County
(Dade City, FL)-- A man is hurt after he was stabbed by a child in Pasco County. It happened yesterday in Dade City near Willingham Ave and Hestor Lake. Dade City Police say Donald Parker choked his girlfriend until she passed out, and when her two children tried to stop him, he hit them repeatedly with a broom handle.One of the children then stabbed Parker with a kitchen knife. The 39-year-old was taken to the hospital for surgery, and he's expected to survive.He'll face charges once he's released from the hospital. No charges have been announced against the child.
Former Kissimmee Employee Arrested For Video Voyeurism
(Kissimmee, FL)-- A cyber security officer in Osceola County is charged with video voyeurism.Kissimmee cyber security officer Jeremy Froias [[FROY-iss]] was arrested recently for allegedly installing a hidden camera in a cruise ship bathroom. The FBI says the camera was found in a public bathroom on the Harmony of the Seas that went from Miami to the Caribbean and back over a week ago.Froias allegedly filmed over 150 people using the bathroom, including children. Frioias had worked for the city of Kissimmee since 2004, but a city official says he was fired on Monday.
Princess Cruises Announces Trips To Caribbean From Port Canaveral
(Port Canaveral, FL)-- Another cruise line will be offering trips to the Caribbean next year.Princess Cruises announced yesterday the Caribbean Princess will set sail from Port Canaveral. The first trip from Terminal 6 is set for late November 2024.Almost 40 trips are planned through April 2025. Most trips will be six and eight nights.
Lake County Substitute Arrested For Reportedly Allowing Vaping
(Eustis, FL) -- A substitute teacher is facing child abuse charges in Florida for reportedly allowing a middle schooler to vape in class. Police say Jennifer Hale was arrested in connection to the incident last week in Lake County. The police report states that Hale gave a seventh grader her e-cigarette after overhearing that he wanted to use one. The substitute reportedly admitted to giving the student her vape claiming she wanted to fit in. District officials say she is no longer employed with them.
Police In Oklahoma Respond To Cries Of 'Help'
(Enid, OK) -- Two Oklahoma police officers have a funny story to tell after responding to report about somebody heard yelling for help. Body cam video from the officers shows them arriving on the scene in a rural area in Enid, and soon discovering that the sound was actually a very upset goat. The owner explained the goat was mad about being separated from another goat.
