Man Convicted After Shootout With Police In Volusia County
(DeLand, FL) --A man will be sentenced this week for a shootout with police in Volusia County. Joseph Jaynes was convicted Friday of attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer. The charge dates back to 2021 when he exchanged gunshots with police in Daytona Beach. No officers were hurt, but Jaynes was shot in the leg. The 27-year-old will be sentenced on Friday.
Clearwater Fires Two Paramedics Who Declared Man Dead Despite Breathing
(Clearwater, FL) -- The City of Clearwater has fired two paramedics, saying they mistakenly declared a man dead then drove off in a February 15th incident. Fire Chief Scott Ehlers [[ ELL-ers ]] said the men didn't follow protocol when they pulled a sheet over the 66-year-old man suffering cardiac arrest and cancelled other units. Ehlers says the men failed their oath of office, as well as the patient and the city.A deputy noticed the man's labored breathing and called paramedics from another city, who took him to a hospital for treatment.
Woman Charged With Faking Own Death To Hide Her Dropping Out Of College
(Jeannette, PA)-- A woman who is suspected of faking her own kidnapping to hide the fact that she dropped out of college is being charged. Chloe Stein is charged with four demeanors, including false alarm to a public safety agency and disorderly conduct. She texted her boyfriend saying she was pulled over by police last week and then stopped answering her phone. A State Police Trooper said the department spent "tens of thousands" of dollars in the search before a tip came in saying she was at a home about 30 miles from Pittsburgh. Investigators learned from Penn State University officials that Stein hadn't been enrolled as a student for over a year and what would have been her graduation was coming up.

(Moorhead, MN)-- The Midtown Tavern in Moorhead, Minnesota has some new help on the wait staff. Robot server "Bella" provides service with a smile - a happy cat smile that's programmed on her screen. The robot is able to navigate the restaurant floor using a programmable map. The owner of the Midtown Tavern says he's been dealing with staff shortages for the past couple of years and Bella has been a welcome addition.
