DeSantis Responds To Disney Lawsuit

(Jerusalem, Israel) -- Governor Ron DeSantis is calling Walt Disney World's federal lawsuit against Florida a political move. The governor responded to the case while in Jerusalem yesterday to discuss a trade mission with other state leaders. Disney is accusing DeSantis of weaponizing government power to go after its operation. The company filed the suit yesterday after a newly-appointed governing board moved forward to strip the company of its control. The ongoing feud between the state of Florida and Disney started last year after the company spoke out against a law limiting discussions of sexual orientation in public schools.

Appeals Court Backs Florida Election Law

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A federal appeals court yesterday reversed a federal judge's ruling last year that the election law passed two years ago was discriminatory. SB 90 imposed restrictions on ballot drop boxes and gave voter registration groups just 14 days to submit their applications. The appeals court determined the federal judge relied on fatally flawed statistical analyses, and the finding of intentional discrimination rested on hardly any evidence. One of the plaintiffs says the ruling helps Florida Republicans silence black and brown Floridians.

State Bill Would Require Sex Offenders To Use Special License Plates

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A bill that's advancing in the Florida Legislature would require registered sex offenders to put a special license plate on their car. An amendment was filed earlier this week that would allow authorities to assign a fluorescent green license plate to vehicles who are operated by people convicted of child sex crimes. It would also require them to have the word "sexual predator" printed in red on their driver's license. If the legislation becomes law, it would take effect next year.

FIU Sees Negative Impact Of Education Legislation

(Miami, FL) -- Florida International University is seeing the impact of some education bills being discussed in Tallahassee. Some bills in the state legislature would affect DEI programs and faculty tenure.FIU Assistant Philosophy Professor Eric Scarffe says one faculty member in his department left for a job out-of-state. He says another retired because they just didn't want to put up with the ongoing attacks on higher ed anymore. Associate History Professor Dan Royles recently told CBS 4 he expects anybody who can get out probably will.

NJ Little League Debut New Policy For Handling Unruly Parents

(Deptford, NJ) -- A South Jersey Little League near Philadelphia is debuting a new policy for handling unruly parents. The Deptford Township Little League in Gloucester County is fed up with parents who scream and yell at umpires, even getting in their faces to dispute their calls.  So, they've launched a new policy. They're going to make rude, angry or aggressive parents serve as umpires themselves, requiring them to suit up for three games before being allowed back in to watch as spectators.
