State Education Leaders To Discuss Sexual Orientation Instruction Proposal

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida's top education leaders are expected to weigh in on a proposal to ban certain conversations in schools.The measure would expand on an existing law that prohibits instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools. The proposal would include all grade levels from kindergarten through high school.The only exception is if the topic is required by state academic standards or is part of a health curriculum.The State Board of Education is scheduled to meet in Tallahassee today.

Lawmakers To Take Up Plan To Nullify Disney Agreement This Week

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Lawmakers are expected to take up legislation this week aimed at nullifying a secret Walt Disney World agreement. The measure was added onto an existing bill that's expected to go before a state committee today. Governor Ron DeSantis detailed the plan saying he was working with the Legislature to reassert state control over Disney's district. The goal is to void the last-minute deal made between the company and its former oversight board. This all comes a year after the company spoke out against a state law that limits discussion of sexual orientation in public schools from kindergarten through third grade.

Volusia County Man Arrested For Fraud

(DeLand, FL)-- The search for a Volusia County man accused of scamming homeowners is over. Joseph England was arrested last week in Seminole County for operating as a contractor without a license, scheming to defraud and theft. The 40-year-old had been wanted for over a year. He was in court yesterday and was denied bond. One DeLeon Springs woman says she's out almost 75-thousand dollars for work England was hired to do but never did.

Fort Lauderdale Residents Criticize City's Handling Of Storm

(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- Some Fort Lauderdale residents aren't happy with how the city responded to the storm. Residents of Melrose Park say it took days before city crews reached their neighborhood on West Dayton Circle to address the flooding. One woman also tells Local 10 News she never got a warning about the storm ahead of time or heard anything about free sandbags being available. 

Toddler Breaches White House Grounds

(Washington, DC)-- A toddler is responsible for causing a bit of commotion at the White House Tuesday. The Secret Service told The Hill that a child was able to squeeze through a fence on the north side of the grounds. Officials said the child made his way toward the North Lawn as his parents were on Pennsylvania Avenue. The White House restricted access during the incident as President Biden was present at the time. The parents were quickly reunited with their little trespasser and sent along their way after questioning.

Amazon Prime Video Debuts "Dialogue Boost" Feature

(Seattle, WA)-- Amazon is hoping to make it easier to understand the dialogue heard in its movies and shows. A new feature called Dialogue Boost is now available on select Amazon Prime Video original movies and series. It allows viewers to increase the volume of what's being said in relation to background music and effects. At launch, Dialogue Boost can be used on series like "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" along with films such as "The Big Sick" and "Being the Ricardos." Amazon said the feature will be available on more titles throughout the year.
