Titusville Man Loses Part Of Right Leg Following Friday Gator Attack In Titus, FL

(Titusville, FL)-- A local man is hospitalized after a large alligator bit off his leg near his Titusville home on Friday. Brevard County authorities say the gator attacked the 72-year-old man as he was walking along a canal at the Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort. The man lost his right leg from the knee down. Officials say he is recovering at a hospital in Melbourne. Florida Fish and Wildlife workers, assisted by Brevard County deputies, identified, tracked down and killed the gator after the attack.   

Hoax Bomb Threat Reported In Volusia County

(DeLand, FL) --A search is underway to find whoever reported a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported the threat was made yesterday morning against Lifepoint Community Church in DeLand on West New York Ave. The church was evacuated, and a K-9 team did a sweep but found nothing. There's no word on a suspect.

Gillum's Trail Begins Today

(Tallahassee, FL) --The former mayor of Tallahassee goes on trial today. Andrew Gillum is due in federal court to face 19 charges that include wire fraud and conspiracy. Prosecutors say Gillum and former State House candidate Sharon Janet Lettman-Hicks conspired to raise money, lied about what the money was for and sent the money to Lettman-Hicks' PR company. She then allegedly sent the money to Gillum and disguised it as payroll payments. Jury selection will take place this morning, and opening statements are expected this afternoon. 

DeSantis To Unveil New Anti-Disney Measures

(Tallahassee, FL) --Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to step up his battle with Disney today. The New York Post reported yesterday that DeSantis will unveil what it calls new crackdown measures against the corporate giant. Disney signed a 30-year development deal with its former oversight board before the board was dissolved. The Post reports DeSantis will propose a way for lawmakers to void the deal. A senior administration source tells the Post DeSantis is going to have the last laugh.

Murder Suspect To Surrender In Brevard County

(Titusville, FL) --A man who had his murder conviction overturned is heading back to prison in Brevard County. Crosley Green is set to turn himself in today. He spent over 30 years in prison for killing a man in 1989, but the conviction was overturned by a federal judge five years ago. The state appealed, though, and the judge's decision was reversed last year. Green was ordered to return to prison to finish his sentence. He tells News 6, though, he believes wholeheartedly he'll have his freedom again one day. 

House Committee Proposes Sales Tax Holiday For HillsCo

(Tallahassee, FL) --Some House lawmakers in Tallahassee have an idea for what to do with the money collected from Hillsborough County's transportation surtax. The county collected over half-a-billion dollars from the one-cent sales tax before the Florida Supreme Court ruled two years ago that it was unconstitutional. A House committee voted last week to return the money to the county's taxpayers by creating a sales tax holiday. The holiday would start October First and continue until the money runs out. The proposal still needs to pass the full House.

New App Allows Families To Talk To Deceased

(New York, NY) --Opinions are mixed over a new interactive app that reportedly allows mourners to "talk" to the dead."HereAfter A-I" creates digital replicas of the voice and personality of deceased loved ones. Orthodox Catholic philosopher Joe Vukov says having a way to "keep people around who we've lost" is well-intentioned. But he also cautioned that people are more than "just this abstract intelligence." A video of a woman "meeting" a simulation of her deceased mother has gone viral with more than 30-million views on YouTube.
