Several Florida Universities Ban TikTok In Campus
(Tallahassee, FL) --Several Florida universities are banning the use of TikTok on campus. The University of Florida's student-led newspaper, The Independent Florida Alligator, reported yesterday that students were notified about the change.UF officials explained that they would need to disconnect from the university's Wi-Fi if they wanted to use TikTok, WeChat or other similar apps. Bans were also implemented at Florida State University and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Federal agents have warned that the apps are run by a Chinese company and could potentially share user data with its government.
Northeast Florida School Board To Consider New Bathroom Policy
(Green Cove Springs, FL)-- A Northeast Florida school district will consider a controversial bathroom policy. The proposal would require Clay County students to use restrooms, locker rooms and dressing rooms that match the sex they were assigned at birth, ultimately impacting transgender students. The language of the draft states that this process will align School Board Policies with state and federal law. A final vote is expected at today’s meeting. Districts across the state have approved similar changes.
Brevard County Couple Arrested For Stealing From Storage Facility
(Titusville, FL)-- A Brevard County couple is accused of stealing from a storage facility. Titusville Police arrested Kyle Stuart and Denise Weaver this weekend on charges that include grand theft. The two allegedly stole a personal watercraft trailer, two personal watercrafts, a motorhome and a Coleman camper last month from All-Purpose Storage on South Street. Police say the items had a combined value of about 55-thousand dollars.
Strip Club Owner Accused Of Hiring Underage Dancer
(Orlando, FL)-- An Orange County strip club owner is accused of hiring an underage dancer. The Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation this week arrested the owner of Flash Dancer Orlando on Orange Blossom Trail.William Sierer [[sear]] allegedly hired a dancer in 2019 when she was just 15-years-old and again in 2020 when she was 16. Three other employees were also arrested. The investigation started two years ago after a deputy made a traffic stop and found the girl was a dancer at the club.
Three Floridians Charges In Nationwide Telemarketing Scam
(Miami, FL)-- Three Floridians are facing federal fraud charges in a nationwide telemarketing scam. The IRS says Miami-Dade County's William O'Hanlon and his wife Karen Stefanowski helped run a number of companies that target seniors. Also charged this week was Seminole County's James Toner and four other people in other states. Authorities say the suspects sold fake services to timeshare owners between 2016 and 2020, but did not disclose how much money they reportedly stole from victims. They appeared in court yesterday and were released on bail.
Man Leads Police On Chase In Stolen School Bus
(York County, PA)-- A man is in custody after leading police on two bizarre police chases within a 24-hour span. Tony Saunders was first pulled over early Tuesday morning because he and the vehicle he was in matched the descriptions of a burglary suspect. After troopers found a dead deer in his trunk and started to question him about items in his back seat, he took off. Hours later, Saunders was found driving a stolen school bus with the dead deer inside the bus in Lower Allen Township. When police caught up with him, he stripped naked and took off running. He was eventually arrested and is in the York County Prison.
Market Employee Assaulted With Frozen Fish
(Warren, MI)-- A customer of a Warren, MI market is facing charges after assaulting a clerk with a frozen fish. Police said Jobul [[ juh-BOOL ]] Hussain went to the market on Nine Mile Road shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday but fish counter was closed due to Ramadan. Hussain began arguing with the clerk and then picked up a four-pound frozen fish and hit the worker in the head. The worker was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Hussain has been arraigned on aggravated assault and was given a five-thousand dollar bond.
