Legislation To Lower Death Penalty Threshold Moves Toward Final Passage
(Tallahassee, FL) --Legislation that would make death penalty decisions easier to get in Florida is moving closer to final passage. The House Judiciary Committee approved the bill Friday, one day after the Senate passed it. The measure would kill the current unanimous jury requirement for a death sentence recommendation. Instead, juries could recommend the death penalty if only eight of 12 jurors agree.
Brevard County Suspect Arrested After Standoff
(Cocoa, FL)-- A Brevard County man is in custody after an eight-hour standoff. Raekwon Glover was arrested yesterday morning in Cocoa after he barricaded himself inside his home on North Carolina Ave. The 27-year-old allegedly fired a shot inside the home and stole a car. No injuries were reported. Glover is facing charges that include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Deadly Shooting In Tampa Convenience Store
(Tampa, FL)-- A man is dead after a confrontation at a Tampa 7-Eleven.Police say an employee shot and killed a customer inside the store on North Nebraska Ave Saturday night. There's no word on what led to the shooting. ABC Action News reports no charges have been announced.
4 Face Federal Indictments For Threats At Florida Pregnancy Centers
(Miami, FL)-- Four people are facing federal charges for allegedly spray painting threats on three Florida reproductive health centers that offer abortion alternatives. The recently unsealed federal indictment unsealed accuses all four of participating in a conspiracy "to attack reproductive health facilities that provide abortion alternatives" with threats of force and other intimidating messages on the properties of the facilities. The threats were spray painted on centers in Hollywood, Winter Haven, and Hialeah between May and July of last year.
DeSantis Impresses GOP Voters In Pennsylvania
(Camp Hill, PA)-- Governor Ron DeSantis appears to be gaining support in a key battleground state. DeSantis was the headliner at the Pennsylvania Leadership Conference Saturday, and may have won over a few Donald Trump supporters. One Republican says he went in thinking Trump was his favorite, but he thinks he may have changed his mind. He says DeSantis is a leader, and his experience can translate into being a terrific president. Another GOP voter tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette DeSantis is more aware than Trump is of current issues like education and parents' rights. Two polls out yesterday, though, show Trump still leading DeSantis in the 2024 GOP primary.

(Dallas, TX)-- TikTok's "Traveling Grannies" are back home in Texas. Ellie Hamby and Sandy Hazelip came up with the idea to travel around the world in 80 days when they were 80 awhile back, and this year, finally made it happen. The friends of 23 years traveled to all seven continents -- taking an enthusiastic fan base along for the ride.
