UCF Political Analyst Discusses Trump Indictment

(Orlando, FL) -- A UCF political analyst believes Donald Trump's presidential campaign could see a boost from his indictment. Political science professor Aubrey Jewett said yesterday the Republican base will rally around Trump, at least in the short run, because they'll feel he's being unjustly prosecuted. Jewett tells the Orlando Sentinel he expects that support will translate to higher poll numbers. A Fox News poll released yesterday shows Trump already has a 30-point lead over Governor DeSantis in the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Trump Responds To Indictment

(West Palm Beach, FL)-- Donald Trump says he's the victim of a witch-hunt. The former president responded yesterday to reports that he has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury. He says radical left Democrats have done the unthinkable by indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant election interference. Trump also accuses DA Alvin Bragg of doing Joe Biden's dirty work while ignoring murders, burglaries and assaults. Trump writes on Truth Social this witch-hunt will backfire massively on Biden, and our movement will defeat Biden and throw every last one of these crooked Democrats out of office so we can make America great again.

DeSantis Says Florida Won't Cooperate With Efforts To Extradite Trump

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Prosecutors trying to extradite Donald Trump from Palm Beach County to New York shouldn't expect any help from Florida officials. Governor Ron DeSantis said yesterday the state will not cooperate with any possible extradition request. He cites what he calls the questionable circumstances at issue with the Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda. DeSantis, though, may not be able to stop extradition. Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg says DeSantis can only delay extradition by refusing to sign an extradition order. Aronberg tells the Tampa Bay Times that New York prosecutors could then ask a federal judge to order DeSantis to comply with the extradition request. Trump's lawyer, by the way, tells NBC News the former president will voluntarily surrender in New York.

DeSantis On Disney: 'You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet'

(Atlanta, GA) -- When it comes to the Disney-DeSantis feud, 'you ain't seen nothin' yet.' That's what Governor Ron DeSantis said yesterday about the company's recent move. The new board overseeing Disney's government announced this week that Disney and the old board, the Reedy Creek Improvement District, quietly signed a 30-year development deal last month. That appears to limit what the new board can do, but Orlando lawyer Jake Schumer says it still has options. He tells the Times/Herald the new board could try to invalidate the contract, violate it and wait for Disney to sue or try negotiate a new deal. DeSantis was at a book signing in Georgia yesterday, and he said there's more to come.

State Attorney General Urges Supreme Court To Reject Abortion Cases

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is asking the state Supreme Court to reject abortion-related cases. Her office filed a brief Tuesday arguing that justices should uphold a law signed last year that prevents abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. It also directed that decisions about the restrictions should be left to the Legislature. The high court is considering a challenge by seven abortion clinics who deem the legislation unconstitutional. This also comes as the GOP-controlled Senate plans to vote on a bill for a six-week ban as soon as today.

Central Florida Counties Issue Emergency Burn Ban

(Orlando, FL) -- Some parts of Central Florida are under an emergency burn ban due to dry weather conditions. Brevard County is the latest to issue the order, joining Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. The bans prohibit all outdoor burning that has not been permitted by the Florida Forest Service. People are still allowed to use above ground grills. All orders are in effect until further notice.

Rabies Alert Issued In Brevard County

(Titusville, FL) --Pet owners should be aware of a rabid raccoon in Brevard County. Health officials issued a Rabies Alert yesterday for part of Cocoa. The alert will be in effect for 60 days in the 32927 ZIP code. The center of the alert is Everglades Street. Pet owners are advised to make sure their pets have their rabies shots and are not allowed to roam free.

Venomous Caterpillars Popping Up Around Florida

(Gainesville, FL) -- Florida health officials are warning residents to be on the lookout for venomous caterpillars. A report from the University of Florida says Tussock Moth Caterpillars are popping up around parts of the state. Officials say the creatures are like porcupines since their hairs can get caught in skin and cause an allergic reaction. People who touch the caterpillars can use tape to remove the hairs before using ice and baking soda to stop the irritation. They typically start to disappear in early May once they hatch into moths and fly away.

Suspect Laughs Chasing Pedestrians With Forklift

(Portland, OR) --A man is accused of stealing a forklift in downtown Portland and then laughing "maniacally" as he chased pedestrians. The suspect stole a forklift from a parking garage. A witness told police she saw him drive onto a sidewalk and then chased pedestrians while laughing and yelling "I literally stole this."No one was injured. A police officer arrived and the suspect drove toward the patrol car and stopped. Joffre Zelinski told the officer there might be a federal warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody for burglary, theft, and driving a stolen vehicle.
