Brevard Schools Superintendent Placed On Leave

(Titusville, FL)-- The leader of the Brevard County school district has been suspended. The school board voted yesterday to place interim Superintendent Robert Schiller on administrative leave. Board members say they want to investigate accusations against Schiller, but no one gave any details. Schiller criticized the board for what he calls an astounding level of immaturity. Assistant Superintendent for Facilities Sue Hann was named acting superintendent. Schiller was named interim superintendent just four months ago.

Lawmakers To Take Up Death Penalty Bill This Week

(Tallahassee, FL) --The Florida Senate is expected to take up a measure this week that would change death penalty requirements. Lawmakers are scheduled to consider a bill designed to reverse a 2017 provision. It would allow death sentences to be imposed based on the recommendation of eight out of 12 jurors, instead of a unanimous decision. The Senate also is set to take up a bill tomorrow, allowing people to carry guns without a state concealed-weapons license. It already passed the House last week.

Man Hurt In Road Rage Shooting In Seminole County

(Winter Springs, FL) -- A man is hurt after a road rage shooting in Seminole County. It happened yesterday morning near Winter Springs at Red Bug Lake and Tuskawilla roads. The sheriff's office says a 34-year-old man was shot in the leg after a bullet entered through the car door. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. No arrest has been announced.    

Investigation Into Pinellas County Murder Stretches Into Miami

(Clearwater, FL) --Clues in a Pinellas County murder case could be found as far south as Miami. Plastic surgeon Tomasz [[toe-MAHS]] Kosowski is accused of killing Largo lawyer Steven Cozzi [[COZZ-ee]] last week. Investigators say Kosowski's car was outside Cozzi's law firm in Largo the day Cozzi went missing, and license plate readers show Kosowski's car was in the Miami area hours later. The body of the 41-year-old Cozzi has not been found. The 44-year-old Kosowski is charged with first-degree murder.    

Police Rescue Man And Dogs From Submerged Car

(Longwood, FL) --A man and his dogs are safe today thanks to police in Seminole County. Longwood Police yesterday rescued an elderly man and two dogs after their car wound up in a retention pond on West SR 434. Police say a sergeant and an officer broke the car's window, cut the driver's seatbelt and pulled all three from the car. Firefighters swam the three to shore. They're all expected to recover. 

SpaceX Has Launch Set For Today

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- SpaceX's mission to spread broadband internet around the world continues today. The company will launch 56 more Starlink satellites into orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The launch window opens at 4:01 p.m. and closes at 7:49.SpaceX started the Starlink program five years ago, and it has launched four thousand satellites since then. 

Miami Seaquarium May Release Orca

(Miami, FL) --After more than 50 years in captivity, an orca at Miami Seaquarium is returning home. Officials announced yesterday that Lolita will be released into her native waters in the Pacific Northwest. She's 57-years-old, and one activist who has called for her release tells Local 10 News she has suffered a lot. Details of the move are expected to be announced tomorrow.

2021, the trial for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin began. He was accused and eventually convicted of killing Black man George Floyd by putting a knee on his neck for nearly ten minutes.

1971, a jury in Los Angeles, California, recommended the death penalty for Charles Manson and three females followers for the 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders. The four later had their sentences commuted.

1848, Niagara Falls stopped flowing for the first time ever. An ice jam in the Niagara River forced the water to stop.
