Search For Missing Teen Suspended
(Indialantic, FL)-- The family of a Brevard County teenager lost at sea isn't giving up hope. The Coast Guard announced this weekend that the sheriff's office has suspended the search for 18-year-old Benjamin Gilles [[GILL-is]]. The Cypress Hill High School student went missing Friday after visiting Indialantic Beach with friends for Spring Break. Investigators believe he got caught in a rip current. Benjamin's aunt tells Fox 35 News they haven't lost all hope, and they're still praying for good news.
Deadly Shooting In Brevard County
(Melbourne Beach, FL)-- One person is dead and another is hurt after an apparent case of gang violence in Brevard County. The sheriff's office says the two were shot Saturday night near Melbourne Beach during a party at Spessard Holland Park. One victim was taken to the hospital, and he's in critical condition. The other victim died at the scene. Sheriff Wayne Ivey says two people were taken into custody, but no charges have been announced. Ivey says it appears the shooting was gang related.
Man Dies After Being Shot By Pinellas County Deputies
(Pinellas Park, FL)-- A man is dead after a shootout with law enforcement officers in Pinellas County. It happened last night in Pinellas Park on 60th Ave. St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway says deputies were called to the area after a witness reported a man was trying to break into cars. The suspect was found at a church, and he allegedly shot at a sheriff's office K9 and deputies. The dog's handler was hit but is expected to survive. A sergeant shot and killed the suspect.
Orange County Deputy Arrested For DUI
(Orlando, FL) -- An Orange County deputy is accused of driving drunk in Brevard County. The Orange County Sheriff's Office announced that Deputy Anthony Listort was arrested Saturday for DUI with property damage. He has since been assigned to administrative duties. Listort has been with the OCSO for six years.
New Smyrna Beach Police To Enforce Curfew For Minors During Spring Break
(New Smyrna Beach, FL)-- Police in New Smyrna Beach say they will fully enforce the city's new youth curfew during spring break. Giant signs with warnings reminding people about the youth curfew are up on the bridge, and police say they won't be cutting any corners after what they saw last year. Chief Eric Feldman said his officers will strictly enforce the 11 p.m. curfew, telling people to disperse and go home. People younger than 18 must be off the streets from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
"Unprecedented" Violence Rocks Fort Lauderdale High School
(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- A lunch hour brawl at Fort Lauderdale High School involved more than 100 students. Cell phone videos students shot showed fists flying and security officers wrestling students to the ground. Some students said the violence was a continuation of fights that happened off campus during the week. Fort Lauderdale High School has an A-Plus rating and students and parents said Friday's violence is unprecedented. Disruptions also were reported at Sunrise Middle School and Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale. No weapons were found at any of the three schools.
Two-Time Lottery Winner Credits Hairstyle For Good Luck
(Middle River, MD) -- A Maryland man who just won his second lottery prize is crediting his hairstyle for his good luck. William Daniels Jr. took home 50-thousand dollars from a scratch-off game last week after first pocketing 100-thousand dollars back in 2015. He told lottery officials that he was wearing his hair long when he scored the first prize, and it wasn't until he started doing it again recently that he nabbed another jackpot. Daniels said he plans on using the money to pay for his wedding.
