Man Arrested For Shooting Police Officer In Miami-Dade County
(Miami, FL) --The son of a Miami-Dade County School Board member is accused of shooting a cop. Miami-Dade Police yesterday arrested Steve Gallon, the Fourth for attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer with a firearm. He allegedly shot the officer in the neck Wednesday during a traffic stop near Northwest 42nd Street. The bullet grazed the officer. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released. Four others were also arrested. The 32-year-old Gallon is the son of Miami-Dade School Board member Steve Gallon, the Third.
Prosecutor Unsure About Pursuing Death Penalty Against Deadly Shooter
(Orlando, FL)-- A prosecutor is still deciding if a suspected killer should get the death penalty. Orange-Osceola State Attorney Monique Worrell announced yesterday she'll pursue first-degree murder charges against Keith Moses, but she's not sure what kind of punishment she'll ask for. The 19-year-old Moses is accused of killing three people in Pine Hills last month. Worrell expects to file charges today, but she'll hold off, for now, on the murder-one charges. She says those can only be filed by a grand jury. Worrell says she'll only file for second-degree murder today to ensure Moses doesn't get out of jail before the grand jury meets. There's no word on when she'll decide on the death penalty.
NTSB Reveals Details Of Deadly Polk County Plane Crash
(Winter Haven, FL)-- Some details are out on a deadly plane crash in Polk County. Four people were killed when two planes collided, mid-air, in Winter Haven over Lake Hartridge on Tuesday. An NTSB investigator said yesterday the planes hit nose-to-nose even though each pilot made moves to avoid the collision. The investigator also says one pilot communicated their location, but it's not clear if the other pilot heard it. Neither plane had radar or any kind of avoidance system. Also, both planes have been pulled from the lake, but one plane is missing a wing.
SpaceX Celebrates Successful Satellite Launch
(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- SpaceX is celebrating a successful launch from Florida's Space Coast. The company used a Falcon 9 rocket to send another batch of OneWeb satellites into orbit earlier this afternoon. OneWeb now has a network of nearly six-hundred satellites in low-Earth orbit and hopes to complete one more launch down the line. SpaceX has the Terran1 launch scheduled at 1pm tomorrow.
NASA Asks For More Funding
(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- NASA needs more money to support what it calls the world's best workforce. That's what NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said yesterday after President Biden revealed his budget request for Fiscal Year 2024. It includes more than 27 billion dollars for NASA. That's up seven percent and almost two billion dollars from the current fiscal year. Nelson says the extra funding will allow for more crewed missions to the International Space Station and, eventually, humanity's return to the moon.
KY Candidate for Governor Pleads Guilty to Vehicle Chase Involving Nephew
(Walton, KY) -- A candidate for Kentucky governor has pleaded guilty to charges related to chasing his nephew down in a truck in October. According to the Kenton County Attorney's office, Eric Deters also pleaded guilty to sending harassing messages to his sister-in-law following the incident. Deters was sentenced to 270 days in jail, which the court conditionally discharged for the next two years. Deters says this will not affect his run for the governor's office.
Volusia County Woman Finds Gator In Pool
(Stone Island, FL)-- An alligator is responsible for giving a Volusia County woman an unexpected surprise. Stone Island's Lynn Tosi [[TOE-see]] found an 11-and-a-half foot gator in her pool Wednesday morning. She says it looks like the gator broke through a patio screen like the Kool-Aid man. Tosi called the FWC, and they came and took the gator before euthanizing it. She tells News 6 if the gator had been out there the same time as her dogs or her daughter, it could have been terrifying.
