New Disney District Governing Board Teases Big Changes

(Orlando, FL) -- A state-appointed board assigned to govern Walt Disney World's property is hinting at big changes ahead. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board met for the first time yesterday. Board members, all DeSantis appointees, are hoping to get rid of COVID-19 restrictions that are still in place. Firefighters from the formerly named Reedy Creek Improvement District also joined the meeting to ask for pay raises and better work conditions. Overall, officials plan to make major adjustments in the coming months, but did not provide specifics.

MDPD Officer Shot In Ambush

(Miami, FL)-- A police officer is hurt after he was shot in Miami-Dade County. It happened yesterday near Northwest 42nd Street. Miami Dade Police say the narcotics officer was on duty when he was ambushed and shot in the back of the head during a traffic stop. He was taken to the hospital and released in good condition. A police spokesman says the bullet only grazed the officer. The driver of the car is in custody, but the passenger who allegedly shot the officer is on the loose.     

Fentanyl Dealer Sentenced To Life

(Tampa, FL)-- A Pasco County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for selling a deadly dose of fentanyl. Federal prosecutors announced yesterday that New Port Richey's Justin Kelly was sentenced on Tuesday to life in federal prison. The case dates back to over two years ago when a man was found dead in his home from a fentanyl overdose. Investigators traced the source of the drugs to the 36-year-old Kelly. He was found guilty in November. 

Swatting Suspect Arrives In Escambia County

(Pensacola, FL)-- A teenager accused of spreading panic at a Santa Rosa County school is now behind bars. New Jersey's Brad Parga was flown into the area last night to face charges for the swatting calls he allegedly made to Milton High School last year. The 17-year-old is accused of calling the school to threaten a mass shooting and a bombing. All the threats were hoaxes. He's being charged as an adult.   

Broward County Man Honored For Stopping Kidnapping

(Pembroke Pines, FL)-- A Broward County man is being recognized for stopping a possible kidnapping. Pembroke Park's Christopher Williams was given a service award at yesterday's town hall meeting. The 33-year-old intervened last month when he saw a neighbor trying to force a boy into the man's home. The man had a gun, but Williams says when he saw the look on the boy's face, he knew he had to intervene. He grabbed the gun, and the child ran away. Williams tells CBS 4 he believes his purpose in life is to help people, and he'd do it all again if he had to.

Great White Shark Spotted Off Northeast Florida Coast

(Jacksonville, FL) -- Marine scientists are tracking several great white sharks off Florida's coast. The online shark tracker Ocearch spotted a nine plus-foot shark, known as Tancook, about 60 miles east of Amelia island yesterday morning. Earlier this week, a ten-foot great white named Rose and an eleven-footer named Maple were spotted along the state's west coast. The sightings come as families plan their spring break vacations. The latest report by UF's International Shark Attack File says Florida led the world in the most shark bites last year with 16 reported.

Big Cat Found In Cinci Neighborhood Tests Positive For Cocaine

(Cincinnati, OH)-- Officials in Cincinnati say a big cat found roaming around a neighborhood has tested positive for cocaine. They said they were alerted to reports of a "leopard" seen in a tree in late January. It was determined that the cat was a Serval, which is illegal to own in Ohio. A narcotics test showed the Serval was exposed to cocaine. The big cat has been taken to the Cincinnati Zoo, where it's being cared for.
