Here’s a recap of the week…
BML Monday: It Happens to Us All
…when are we “history?”
Just when do we become part of history? It's a matter of perspective, I suppose. But, some folks are a bit miffed that their childhood is now portrayed as “historical.” That and the WOKE paint I bought over the weekend are IN A HANDBASKET on this Monday.
Here’s an idea that I’m surprised hasn’t come to life in Florida- The Yankee Tax!
Cancel Culture is real. It’s also inconsistent because of the mindset of those doing the cancelling. Dilbert and James Bond are in the target zone. We are also in the sights of the woke mob. We have a list of just what companies are tools of that mob. On the upside, one major university is going the other direction, or so it says.
Can you be yourself in today’s America? And who’s coming after you when you are? Welcome to our Monday discussion.
BML Tuesday: They’re Watching You
We spent much of Monday discussing Dilbert creator Scott Adams and his plight after being cancelled for his public comments that were deemed to be racist by the publishers of his comic strip. We’d asked about this occurring in other workplaces. Today we have an example- The Vermont State Police, only this case may be worse.
Following that, we’ll get a look at South Park, an irreverent cartoon that takes shots at anyone and anything that was far ahead of its time.
The main story on Florida Today’s website this morning indicated that Brevard’s football coaches are about to the top paid coaches in the state. It strikes me that this is not about football or education. In Tallahassee the idea is being floated of a full-time legislature. It would mean higher pay and lawmakers disconnected from their districts. What about this seems smart?
Hour three brings Dave Bowman with our weekly look at history. Today it’s American foreign policy and diplomacy that was completely different from what we see today. The difference is, today we see it. It wasn’t always that way.
BML WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY
…Where are the 1A Advocates?
Scott Adams and Dilbert have been featured in our discussion all week. That doesn’t change today as the response of other cartoonists is surprising. Some of Adams’ contemporaries are actually supporting his being cancelled! That’s got the artist community IN A HANDBASKET this morning.
On a related note, Bill Maher gets it. He knows he could be cancelled at any moment. Where are the First Amendment advocates when we need them; or are they first amendment advocates at all? There are companies that are anti-you. We have a list.
Jumping to the second amendment, and there are many of us who are supporters, we have a shooter protecting his home and property in the news. My question is whether you see a problem with the story and how the shooter handled himself.
Other than that, it’s WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY, the one day each week where you are unrestricted as to the topics you bring to our discussion. What has you thinking, concerned or talking? Lay it on us when you call the show today.
BML Thursday: Pronouns, Politics & Perspectives
…John Torres on Crosley Green
Good news yesterday afternoon as our friend Scott Cuthbert texted to say all went well with his medical procedure. Good Vibrations last night at the King Center as the Beach Boys put on a show that was well worth the lost sleep to see. The video that played behind the band was as welcome as the music we all enjoyed.
The transgender community has caused itself problems. When those on your side of the political aisle are saying enough is enough, trust me, it is. It has Bill Maher channeling Dave Chappelle IN A HANDBASKET this morning. Then, the city of Jacksonville is in the crosshairs for going way beyond its bounds in mandating pronoun use in businesses there. The Brevard Zoo is experiencing the rainbow wrath for allowing the D-33 Rep to hold a fundraiser at its facility. Should they be allowing such events at all considering they are dependent on government funding for much of what they do?
Florida Today’s John Torres has chronicled the story of Crosley Green. Absent the governor’s intervention, that story is headed for a sad conclusion. John's with us in our final hour to share the latest developments and what hope may be left.
BML Friday: Republicans Against Free Speech
… legislature preview with Representative Tyler Sirois
Most of our free speech discussion this week centered around cartoonist Scott Adams and his strip, Dilbert. Today it focuses on Floridians. There are companion bills in the legislature that would require registration and impose penalties on journalists and others who comment on state officials. This, in a Republican controlled body. Who the hell are we electing to these positions?
The legislative session begins next week and Representative Tyler Sirois will preview the session with us in our 8am hour today.
We’ll begin the day with a good idea IN A HANDBASKET. Usually the segment is devoted to the upside down things in our world. Well, good ideas are more uncommon than we’d like to think and Arkansas has passed one into law.
Would it surprise you to learn the FBI did not want to raid Mar-a Lago? I’ve told you all along, this was a political call by DC.
Our week-ending discussion promises to be an interesting one. Glad you’re with us!
